I spent three nights in early June, using a convention rate. The check-in agent insisted that no upgrades were available at approx 4 pm on a Monday afternoon, could not find me a decent room with a king sized bed, ended up on the 9th floor of the Diamond Head tower with a partial ocean view.
SUGGESTION: I typically do not reserve a specific room prior to arrival; if I would have done so for the subject say, I would have been able to grab a king bed in a marginally better room.

I'm an under informed diamond and have a fourteen day stay starting next week. Two linked questions about the resort fee. I see that it has increased since I booked in. 1 am I subject to the increased fee? 2 if booked on points is the fee waived? It's a vacation and it's Hawaii but when you total the resort fee and then an increase and a rental car (from the hotel) and parking for the rental it takes the fun out of it.

I fear no matter what we try to do the hoteliers are closing the loop on resort fees. The equity capitol boys and girls are after every nickel they can generate. Charging more for less.
Sadly most of the items in their resort fees are of no real value we all have cell phones so local and long distance calling mea nothing. The only thing I can see of any benefit is internet and most of them are lame

Diamond member here and once we arrived we were upgraded to ocean view in the Tapa tower (originally booked city view kalia tower using points). View was beautiful. We were on the 32nd floor. Had to pay for parking. Also received a dining credit of $20 per day.
This hotel is extremely busy. There's just so much going on there. But overall, it was a nice stay

Just returned from a 5 night stay on points at this property. Was upgraded to a partial ocean view in the Tapa tower on the 31st floor and slightly larger floorplan. Wife and I received the dining credit which is fine but I miss having the breakfast buffet at this property (the penguins too for that matter). No welcome amenity offered even though I wrote ahead of time to let them know we were celebrating our anniversary and my wife's birthday. Very limited recognition of my lifetime Diamond status. I would call the stay adequate but certainly I have been treated much better there in the past.

Hilton Gold here. Had a two-night stay and was upgraded to an ocean view room (facing the diamond head) in the rainbow tower on the 29th floor. The view from my balcony was breathtaking. Definitely one of my best memories on the Oahu island. My question is, it seems to me that the Rainbow tower is closest to the ocean. Is it the best building in this resort? Am I missing something?

The Rainbow Tower rooms must be broom closets.

I can tell you that the Ali'i ocean front corner rooms are bigger than the Rainbow corner (xx01) rooms. The Rainbow rooms were a decent size for a couple.
