I have Citi, and now that I look, my Points should be $ * 10. But some of them are +/- by like a couple percentage. Thats strange

I haven't had issues with the Amex but I have constant problems with citi. I'm on the phone with them every month.

Yes, I had this problem in July with my Citi HH Card. A stay at a Hampton in Red Bluff, CA didn't post the bonus. I had to call Citi and it tool a little bit of talking through but they gave me a credit of 1000 points on the next statement (which was a little more than I would have earned). I check my statements every month now to see of the points roughly look correct.

I've just had the same at the Doubletree Hyde Park in London and my UK HH Visa - email has been sent!

Stupid question, but for Citi cards, where do you guys go to check points earned? Chase, for their cards like the freedom, makes it extremely easy to do, because in the online transaction record they list points earned for each transaction. However Citi does not do anything like this that I have ever seen. Do you guys just go through adding up line by line and multiplying? I'm not saying that's difficult to do, of course, just wondering if I'm stupidly missing some useful feature that shows points earned for each transaction.

Hilton Budapest, Hungary (possibly, I see the points were added the following month, but don't recall if I had to request them)
Hilton Athens, Greece
Hilton Melbourne, Australia
Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok, Thailand

My stays at the last two were arguably within months of their opening, and the situation may have been corrected since.

Between the hassle of claiming missing points ('those are not Hilton hotels sir...'), the uncertainty of getting them at properties where I haven't used the HH card previously, the devaluation of HH points, and the 2.7% forex fee, I find myself using it only in the US, and at the rare inexpensive overseas one-nighters where the 500 points bonus tilts the balance in the HH Amex' favor.

I have the same issue with both Citi and Am Ex and with my Harrah's visa. I have no idea as to if a purchase is receiving the correct bonus points or not.

With Citi, I seem to have problems getting the correct bonus points on overseas Hilton charges and when I do Enterprise car rental at non-airport location. And there were a couple months where I received more bonus points than I should have.

I agree with you that Chase Freedom is great with being transparent on points and discover is as well (but I only use those two cards for quarterly promos so it isn't that big of a benefit for me with hose cards since everything would be a 5% purchase).

Am Ex and my Harrah's card are no better. They don't specify what category the charges are assigned to and how they come up with the points. I have restaurant purchases every month on my HH Am Ex that don't get the 5 pts/$. I will total up my restaurant purchases and multiply it by the 2 pts/$ and Am Ex is always giving me fewer points than I am showing I should have received. Seeing Am Ex doesn't break down each transaction to show the category it makes it pretty hard to figure out where the shortage is from and I don't bother calling since it's usually not that many points.

The Hilton Budapest was the one on the Hill? At the Castle?

For Citi you have to download the online monthly statements in pdf. Then they would breakdown the points for you.

All those show is a breakdown of "per dollar spent" vs. "category bonus" for the total spending during the billing period. Which is actually even more confusing as most people do not think of Hilton stays in terms of 3 base plus 7 bonus, they think of it in terms of 10 per dollar. This is not disaggregated on a transaction basis so to cross-check it you would still have to do the previously-mentioned arithmetic.

Yes, that is what I do. On the second page of the cc statement, Citi does does break out all the bonus point (Hilton + Airline + Car Rental), but lumps the 10x and 5x categories together. If there are no bonus points because Citi forgot them, then the whole bonus section is omitted from the statement, leaving the credit card holder in the dark.

Personally, I rank the clarity of cc statements and web sites thusly:

Amex = Superb
Chase = Acceptable
Citi = Inadequate

Citi Bonus Point Rip-offs

I have three cases with Citi Hilton Reserve cc within four months:

Mokulele Airlines (Hawaii Inter-island) no bonus points in May
Seoul Conrad - No bonus points for first night pre-paid in July
Seoul Conrad - No bonus points for the rest of the stay in August.

Only the last omission is fixed and that required escalation to Hilton Honors.

I intend to cancel the card when the renewal fee hits and switch to Amex.
This is ridiculous.

Update - I got 17,604 posted

After; I kid you not; 21 emails to Hilton. I finally got the points that did not post because the hotel identify themselves as Hilton brand hotels deposited into my account.

Most of my emails back and forth were just cut and paste responses from Hilton. Asking if AMEX had my correct HH number, another asking if my purchases were from the HHhonors mall ??!?!? Hu? The finger pointing back to AMEX was non-stop by Hilton.

After a long fight I got the points. BUT no one at Hilton is really looking at this issue. I do not think the get it. Still. or they do not care.

Keep an eye on your accounts if you have an HH credit card from AMEX or CITI as many hotels have issues in the way the show up on your credit card statement and you might not get the points you should.

After seeing this thread, my wife went through 2014 statements from Chase (personal stays), AMEX (business stays) Hilton cards, found SIGNIFICANT discrepancies - in excess of 15k points. She went through the statements on the phone with both providers,who confirmed the issue, agreed to pursue the issue and advise.

OP: As the issue appears to be at the credit card companies, why did you not start with them?

Problem with Hiiton Fukuoka

I had the same problem with my Citi HH card and several prepaid stays at the Hilton Fukuoka. IME, Hilton Customer Service was most unhelpful and generally could not be bothered. They continue to pass the buck between Citi & Hilton and the time spent on auditing this is just not worth the measly (devalued) points.
