An update for everyone:

I just returned back from my 4 day NYC/LI trip. I decided against the manager's special, and splurged for the full size sedan. At ISP, I received a 2019 Kia Optima with 20k miles on it. Base trim and all, but surprisingly enough I very much enjoyed it. Was really hoping for a charger, but they didn't have any. They had some '19 Mailbus in the lot, a Fusion, a new Equinox, an Impala, a whole bunch of 2020 Corollas, a Compass, and some Sorentos as well. My guess based on what I saw was that the manager's special would have been either a corolla, or possibly the singular Dodge Grand Caravan I saw. Never saw anything smaller than the Corolla.

When I returned at JFK today, I saw a whole slew of cars, including a new style Camry, a caravan, a fusion, another Optima, and a Santa Fe or two.

Yeah this is really what worries me. I have 2 reservations, and have 5 star if that helps ...
I think I would be rolling the dice with National and don't have status there.
Enterprise and Alamo have a options for 8 seaters but the price is almost double. Maybe I should focus on getting the costs for those down ...

If you need eight seats, then you should definitely have a reservation (somewhere) for a vehicle with eight seats. Book the Hertz vehicle, and have a reservation (not prepaid, of course) for an eight-seater at another rental company an hour later. That way, if Hertz doesn't have an eight-seater, you can just cancel and get the (higher-priced) eight-seater.

Should definitely submit a request to autoslash, and see what they come up with (autoslash.com, lots of discussion on the general rental car board, service works very well and is free).

What happened when you asked for a different car? You don't have to keep the car they assign you. If there was another "luxury" car on the lot they should have been able to switch you to that car. Or one in a lower category. And if you have 5*/PC status you are still free to pick a different car from the 5*/PC zone at an Ultimate Choice location like KBOS even if you have a specific spot assigned to you (as happens when you reserve something other than intermediate, standard, or full size).

Disagree. Chrylser 300s are terrible cars and not luxurious in any sense of the word. It IS an embarrassment that Hertz classes Chrysler 300 as luxury.

Given a recent option at a UC location of a Toyota Camry or one of the many Chrysler 300s stacked up in the PC zone, it was an easy choice to take the Camry.

To add to the discussion about 8 seat vehicles - National carries Ford Expeditions with 8 seats, and it's not as uncommon as you'd think to find them in the ES aisle.

Another useless hot take because there's no explanation.

Which would you rather take for a rental:
a Chrysler 300, RWD or AWD, with adaptive cruise control, Alpine surround sound, panoramic sunroof, lane keep assist; or a base BMW 3 Series with no features? Unless I'm going on twisting back roads, I'll take the 300.

I would always take a loaded car, but the problem is most of not all of the 2019 300S are base S models. Back in 2018 I had received a couple 300S fully loaded with adaptive cruise and cooled seats/panoramic sunroof and received a 300C with hemi engine once. But then when 2019 model started rolling in there’s none of those anymore

So why didn't you say "Hertz should offer loaded 300s" instead of "the 300 is a ghetto luxury car"?

I'd take the base BMW 3 Series all day every day. Just like it was a no-brainer to choose a freakin' TOYOTA CAMRY instead of a Chrysler 300.

Most installations of adaptive cruise control are far more annoying than useful. And panoramic sunroofs (without hard partitions in the cabin to block their light) are one of the worst "features" to be foisted on automotive consumers in 20 years. I'm considering buying a new car right now and have ruled out several models due to the fact that they cannot be ordered without sunroofs.

Adding a lot of features to a car don't suddenly make it a good car (especially an FCA car where more features just invite more electronic glitches). In any trim level, the Chrysler 300 is a piece of crap.

While I can't speak for the person who posted that, "lipstick on a pig" is the phrase that comes to my mind!

So you don't like adaptive cruise control or sunroofs. Congrats. What's wrong with the 300?

You have an odd sense of cars - maybe it is an 'American' thing?

Can't say I would be seen dead driving a BMW 3 series - a poor car.

Opt for the 300 any day.

But then perhaps it depends if you want luxury or to drive around on 2 wheels

Can't say I have ever had a bad car from hertz - the 300s were very comfortable for long trips.

I guess at the end of the day, it all depends what you look for in a car. I look for comfort for me and my wife.

The "Chrysler interior smell" is an odd one, but to each his own...
