...other than really big UC stations like ATL and DFW suck all the time. THAT you can take to the bank!
Of course they're helpful because they're real-time reports from actual locations about what is and isn't in Hertz's fleet. Knowing whether the cars are 2021 models is even more helpful.

I learned from National at PIT that they got a delivery of 10 brand new Volvo S60s in October. That was an indication that National was buying them again after they had disappeared for awhile.

Then I stand corrected. It's actionable if I check the thread for that station 2 hours before my flight to airport XYZ departs, hope that there's a trip report from XYZ that's no more than 3 hours stale, and then make backup bookings at every competing rental car company at XYZ when I don't like the predictable report of tons of Malibus, Impalas, and cheapo Korean crossovers at Hertz XYZ

Now I agree that is interesting. But I'd ask the question: did only National PIT get S60s or did they go to other National stations in similar quantities? The S60 is a very nice car, looks beautiful too, and is a vehicle I would be thrilled to get as a rental. I actually considered buying a new Volvo S60 as my personal car but I'm sure those who follow my rants here can figure out the primary reason I deselected it!

2wd Large SUV

Hey everyone! New here so forgive me if I don’t know or use the correct terminology just yet.

I’m looking to rent a 2wd Large SUV like a Yukon or Expedition in the next week or so. What do y’all see the most of in this category? Are they usually higher or lower trim vehicles? In the Houston area, so if you have any info specific to my area I’d appreciate it!

Well... I don't think Hertz has a 2WD Large SUV category, just Large SUV, which are all or nearly all 4WD.
That category is mostly Chevy Tahoe (LT trim), GMC Yukon (SLT trim), Ford Expedition (XLT or Limited trim). Expedition is somewhat less common than the Tahoe/Yukons. You could conceptually get a Nissan Armada or Toyota Sequoia per the fleet list but I haven't seen a single one of those since covid. Those are mostly mid-level trims other than the Expedition XLT.

FWIW, I would personally choose a Yukon or an Expedition Limited over a Tahoe or Expedition XLT.

Hello everybody.
I'm looking for a car for 1 month next summer in Las Vegas. I'm not sure it is the best time to book the car, but maybe later will be worse...
I want a cancelable booking, as as I am European, I don't have any certitude that we will be allowed to go to the USA.

Looking at offers, knowing I would prefer a SUV, it seems that best offers are from Sixt (but only via intermediate to get unlimited miles), which seems to have a poor network in case there would be any problem with the car, or Hertz, for K4 and Z4 vehicules with prepaiment.

2 questions :
1) I'm not sure to understand what means Hertz USA to go to bankruptcy. Does this mean there can be a risk that they will disappear until next summer ? I know Hertz France is not concerned by the bankruptcy, and I think to book via Hertz France. When I ask them, they told me I can book with confidence and service will be delivered...

2) K4 vehicules are available with good price (with prepaiment) directly at McCarran Airport, Z4 are available with good price if I take the vehicle 1 day later at the hotel. What is the best category, knowing I will be with my familly including 2 young children, so I don't need the 7 seats.

Thanks for your help.

I'm not that familiar with the European agencies, but if I book directly with Hertz, National, or Sixt through their U.S. site, the "pay later" bookings can be canceled without penalty, and vehicles include unlimited miles. Prepaid rates are usually non-refundable, so I would avoid that.

As for the bankruptcy, Hertz has declared under "Chapter 11", which allows them to reorganize and renegotiate their debts while continuing in operation. Normally this only impacts investors and creditors, not customers. Some locations may close but surely not major airport locations.

I'm not that familiar with the categories, but from the description on Hertz' website (https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/vehic...e%20Collection), it looks like K4 will have 5 seats and Z4 will have 7. The Land Rover Discovery / Infiniti QX60 that they list as examples for Z4 are not very big - they won't be very comfortable for 7 people but either category should be fine for 4. I'd choose based on price.

Hello Stricker. Thanks for the reply. Sixt even through their US website is not proposing unlimited miles for rentals longer than 27 days (as Avis cannot accept more than 27 days for rentals trough website).
I will ask Hertz about the possibility to refund prepaid rates.

This is a very good news. Here in Europe, most of the time bankruptcy means end of activity and customers are the latest to get refund after creditors and investors.

Well the daily rates proposed for both categories are the same, but Z4 is only available at the airport, and K4 only at the hotel (so I will have to pay taxi between the airport and the hotel, which means that the day won if I take the car at the hotel will be amputed from the taxi rate, so both option are similar in term of price.
Depending on the cars available in both categories (I think I have read that most cars in Z4 category are Infinity QX60 currently), maybe one category is better for 4 people in terms of comfort or fuel consumption ?

Someone reported here that Hertz was "selling off" all its good cars and specifically mentioned BMWs. Yet that's clearly bad information since I've seen heaps of BMW SUVs in the last few months plus a 2 Series convertible plus a couple of brand new 3ers. And I'm sure I've still seen 5 Series sedans post-bankruptcy too.

This forum seems to be plagued with some of the worst inaccuracies of crowdsourced anecdotes masquerading as "information" as any on FT.
The bolded portion is exactly what made me make that post in the first place. So here's a modest proposal:
Keep this thread up, but locked. Create a blank 2021 thread (well, with the categories only) and let folks repopulate it as they travel in 2021. When it's consensual that it's reached a certain degree of completeness, then let the old thread go.

I will go ahead and lock this thread, but leave it stickied for a few months.
