Redeeming Gold points and using Discount code?
Does anyone know if you can use a discount code like AAA and also redeem Hertz Gold points at the same time?
Example:
I've got a 9 day rental I'd like to make, so the AAA discount code gets me 15% off and a free child car seat, but can I also redeem like 1500 points for the free weekend days?

Thanks, unfortunately it appears that while you "combine" the two, Hertz actually doesn't calculate the AAA discount and it's basically the same price as without the discount.
Rate went from $346 to $415 by simply checking the box "I want to use my points" in addition to the AAA discount code.

Usually, you don't *want* to use the discount code, because you earn points on the amount of the rental prior to discount.
But yes, you can combine them - maybe not for any fees that aren't covered by the points, but certainly for any extra benefits such as upgrades, extended days, etc.

I'll probably have to call them then as I see some others are having issues using points, so maybe it's a glitch.
All the AAA discount is supposed to give you is 15% and free car/child seat. What the online system appears to be doing is removing the 15% discount (this is before even selecting the car seat, the rate goes up to the "standard" Hertz pricing).

When redeeming points, I always use either my AAA discount (if I have an extra driver) or my USAA discount (if I don't, since it includes a few extra bits of coverage/insurance--always good on a free rental when it's questionable whether my CC will cover me)--not for any break in rate, but for the benefits associated with them.

I've never earned points on an award redemption rental. I don't think the base rate matters on points rentals.
It won't actually be more expensive, even though it appears so on Hertz.com when booking. I discussed this in a recent post in another thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hertz...l#post28286375

I'm looking specifically at a Minivan To/From MCO:
10/21/17-10/30/17
Using just my Hertz Gold Plus "discount" code (not points):
Approx: $693 "pay later" or $531 (pay now) with taxes (not including car seats, etc.)
If I use my AAA discount code (no points) the rates change:
Approx. $416 "pay later" or $372 (pay now) with taxes.
If I try to use my gold points with the AAA rate, the reason I'm seeing a higher rate, according to the phone rep is that you cannot do a "pay now" with points.
So the rate, with "redemption" and AAA discount is only one rate (before redeeming the points):
$416 "pay later"
So in essence I'd burn through points for "2 days" and in effect, get really the benefit of 1 day (not quite that) due to the lack of pre-pay discount.
In other words, I'm saving $44 with pre-pay, but it'll cost me "2 days" of points to save $16 ($60 for the 2 days, minutes the pre-pay discount I would've gotten without having to use any points).
Not exactly a good use of points, IMO.

OK, so here's the scoop (unless the rep/agent I spoke to was misinformed, which is possible):

I did a combined rental for an SUV two years ago. I didn't encounter any issues with pricing or discounts not applied. I rented at HLE so not sure if it's handled different at an airport location.

I had an issue with using my Hertz points when combined with AAA. Online reservation system only allowed redeeming my points if I disabled AAA.
Anyone have luck getting AAA + Hertz points redemption working in 2018?
Also dumb question, if I cancel a booking made with Hertz points, the surcharges and taxes I paid will be refunded right?

No...because they were never charged in the first place. You pay the taxes when you pick up the car (or, technically, when you return the car and the credit card charge is finalized). Nothing is prepaid when you make the reservation, so there's nothing to refund except for the points that were debited from your account.
