Fleet Notes: Fewer Toyotas, More Chevy's, Some Requests
I remember in 2009 when Toyota was having the huge problem with the gas pedal sticking. Throw in the Great Recession so sales plummeted and 1000s of Corollas were off loaded to Hertz. Many Camry's, too.
Now it seems the flavor of the day is Chevrolet, with Captiva, Cruze, Malibu, Impala, and Equinox dominating the fleet.
At least that's the way it is in PDX. I went looking specifically for a Corolla. Saw dozens of the above mentioned Chevys, only 1 Corolla. A handful of Prius, Camry, and Rav4.
I'd like to see more Honda Accords and Civics and more VWs. Nice additions would be Honda CRV, Mazda CX7.
By the way, I haven't seen a Nissan Rogue in a while.
And I do hope Corolla's won't completely disappear.

I was offered a Rogue a couple of months ago.
FWIW I was just showing another FTer yesterday that at the bottom of the back of my Five Star card (which I got a month or two ago), it still says "Hertz rents Fords and other fine cars"

I asked that on another board about when the '13 Acadia's would arrive. No one knows until it's spotted with the barcode on the side window on the road or in the Hertz lot!
I also was thinking of purchasing the new Acadia, but it costs too much... Hope to see it in my neck of the woods someday.

You won't seen any Mazda CX7s, as it is now out of production.
Honda are a rarity on fleet and always have been ever since they started to appear in small numbers in about 2006/7. Suspect they simply don't offer the size of discount that some other mfrs do.
There was a time about a year ago when the Hertz fleet seemed dominated by Nissan, but a lot of these have gone, and inded there seem to be few Rogues out west, and far fewer Versa than there used to be (perhaps because everyone knows the latest one is a retrograde step compared to the old model!).
The Ford irony was not lost on me, especially in 2010/11 when apart from a few Mustangs, Hertz seemed to have literally no Fords at all on fleet. I was told that Ford simply did not want fleet sales and refused to sell them even though Hertz wanted to buy them.
There is some local decision making in what gets purchased, I believe. So Hyundai are a rare sighting at LAX, but if you head east you find more of them even at PHX for instance. And you don't get many Subaru in the sunshine states either.
My last reckoning was that there are something like 130 different body styles/models on fleet at present if you include the old stragglers - so there's plenty for someone who wants a different car every trip to work their way through!

Have you tried the Chevy Cruze? If you can get a nicely equipped one (LT/2LT or even LTZ) I found it was light years ahead of the Corolla. I hear the 2012 Corolla is an improvement over older ones, but I think I will continue to avoid it until it gets an update to its powertrain.
I'd love to get a Volvo C30 again. That car was amazing. But I've only seen it once, in LAS.
Doh. I meant the new CX-5. I love Mazdas, but their numbers always trip me up.

The Ford thing is really funny. Maybe they have some HUGE stockpile of card blanks. Or Ford paid for that inclusion for x years, or had it as a term of the sale? I sometimes think the cars the put in for the class descriptors "xyz or similar" are paid placements as well. I have way more often gotten the "or similar" than not.

I've always liked that I don't get a lot of GM at Hertz, but then GM has been getting better so now I just like that I don't get a lot of Chrysler. I guess I can live with a few Chevys. I've yet to drive a Cruze so I really don't know. I had a Malibu last year but something was messed up, bad tire or something, drove poorly on highway. Luckily it was just for local not long trip.

But here are some tidbits I found about the Regal from the archived thread.The Regal I had was nicely appointed with leather, moonroof, heated seats, etc. As an upgrade from D, I was certainly happy with it. Still, I think it's smaller than most people used to expect for G, especially after years of hulking Grand Marqs.
When the G description said LaCrosse or similar, which is the next size up Buick, having the Regal also be G seemed very odd. Now with G apparently switched to Nissan Maxima or similar, maybe it's not so odd anymore and instead just regular class creep....

It is VERY surprising that the Regal comes standard with leather while the Lacrosse does not, but I looked on the Buick site and saw that you are correct.

The head/leg room for the driver is about the same (tight fit for me at 6'5" in either), but it seems like there is little/no rear legroom behind my seat in a Regal.
Overall, these should definitely NOT be in the same class, and I think the Regal is too small to compete with the Lacrosse/Maxima as a premium car. The regal is a YC at best, and Hertz classifying it any higher is yet another example of the ongoing class creep.

(In fact the early Regals probably including the 2011? example I drove were imported from Germany. I didn't think of checking that at the time.) The Malibu at the time the Regal came out a couple years ago was not related to the German car, though they may now share more parts.I believe my Regal was a CXL? But it's not always consistent what trim levels they have in the fleet. Yeah, there might be a decent likelihood that it's x level, but there are always exceptions.

Definately not getting the GS trim... The 4-cylinder is a little sluggish for my taste.
