PC# 175210 - one-class car upgrade, valid through 2/28/13
PC# 120610 - one-class car upgrade (max PCAR), valid through 12/31/12
PC# 174193 - double upgrade for AAA members (book ECAR through SCAR, max PCAR), valid through 1/31/13

Remember, YF is technically a class up from F

An SUV is also an upgrade...

Q4 vs F: Chevy Captiva, Dodge Journey and AWD/4WD

(Edit: I'm completely wrong in this post about the Captiva, as is quickly pointed out.)

I don't think Chevy Captiva is ever a Q4, and that's what I've been told by (frustrated) staff. From what they tell me, in order for a vehicle to be classified Q4 it must have AWD or 4WD. That's why, for example, Subaru's Legacy Sedan and Outback Station Wagon will end up there (an assignment I'm sure has annoyed some renters).

The Chevy Captiva is and has only ever been a 2WD vehicle. That's why it is F (or YF or F6 as the case may be), but will never be a Q4, even though it is arguably more like a RAV4 (the standard bearer) than a Legacy or Outback.

The Dodge Journey on the other hand comes in both 2WD and AWD variations. As such, the F/YF/F6 classed Journey's should be the 2WD, and the AWD get the Q4 label.

Has this been reported differently?

Have people seen a Captiva classified as a Q4? (And if you reported it as so, are you sure you didn't just assume it was Q4, as I did, until I looked at the key tag?)

And has anyone seen a Journey 2WD in Q4 or AWD in F?

There have been several reports of YQ-tagged Captivas... per the GM Fleet site there is an AWD Captiva

One of those YQ Captivas would be nice today (although would it?). We're in the middle of a snowstorm! I have a CCAR booked for next Friday; usually they give me a midsize (they used to give me full-sizes before I became 5* ) but unless it's a FCAR I will probably just cancel the reservation.

Upgrades are really based on CVI more than status. CVI = Customer Value Index. And when you hang around here, you learn so many ways to get lower prices that your CVI eventually bottoms out.

I'd like to report that 8 hours after incorrectly asserting that there is no AWD Captiva and therefore no YQ Captiva's, that I am now the proud renter of an AWD YQ Captiva. Live and learn.

As you know, home baked treats and friendliness are the only way to overcome a low CVI.

Gold Choice eligibility -- how low can you go?

Question for those of you who rent more frequently than I do: if I book a Chevy Cruze ("Intermediate Fuel Saver", EDAR), would I be eligible to use Gold Choice at an airport location? It's (surprisingly) 66 cents cheaper than a straight-up ICAR and I'd rather be promised one of those than have a chance of getting a Corolla.

The Cruze is C, YC, C4, and B6; so I'm not sure what they consider it to be in terms of GC eligibility.

Thanks!

(FWIW though it comes out $1.16 more expensive than the ICAR in the end Gotta love different RQs...)

(Oh, and no update this week -- I think we have the list pretty well covered, finally!)
