I'll bet you can find much better located and priced Vietnamese options elsewhere in the city. I don't care how amazing it is, you'd have to hold a gun to my head to get me anywhere near Fisherman's Wharf more than once a year, let alone twice a month.

I've also helped host a couple general mega-DO's, and I didn't notice any striking difference in commitment levels between gay or straight attendees.

That aside, I hope everyone had fun! I was on the go all weekend and unfortunately had to sell our tickets to Real Bad. Friends that made it to the (near) bitter end said it was absolutely packed and amazing. The fair I thought was pretty routine, although the amazing weather made it a perfect day outside!

IMHO I think their low key, friendly and helpful personas (here and other forums) plays a big part in the great turnout they get for their events. @:-)

Real Bad was amazing. Absolutely. And I stayed until the bitter end. I'll definitely go to Real Bad next year, and I'll skip Magnitude, which was rather disappointing.

I skipped both. Only went to GayVN, after party, RSS Party, and Lookout. totally worn out after Folsom.

First, about the Fair, it's my 6th in a row, I think. Many people say - Eh, it's the same every year, why go again? I LUV LUV it EVERY year!! I don't think I'll ever get tired of all of the "sights and sounds"!! It's just tons of good old clean "naughty" fun! I felt that there was more full nudity this year! What do you think? Last year, I saw signs that said nudity wasn't permitted, although it was obviously NOT enforced. I didn't see those signs this year, but I really wasn't looking for them. I always "dress the part", for the fair, and really feel like I'm "participating"! Had a BLAST at a very funnnn party just after the fair was over. Made some new friends - saw some old ones. I DO hope to go again next year, if I can get a cheap ticket again! Did anyone do the porn studio tour?

PIT/ATL/SFO/DTW/PIT = $150. No upgrade on the long flights!
5244 X 2 = 10,488 MQM's - .0143 cents / MQM
5244 X 2 + 10,000 = 20,488 RDM's - .007 cents / RDM

As to the original idea for this thread - a "DO" . . . I hate to say this, but, I'm a little "irritated" that the OP chooses to pick on all gay people as a group and say that all are unable to commit to anything. I attended a DO that Wireless arranged, and something like 60 people were there. Maybe the OP would consider that either nobody was interested in the venues he chose, or perhaps, the touristy group in town for this event had other plans simply didn't want to "do the do" - similar to a few thoughts posted nearby above.

Big +1 - And they're all (wireless, bigguy, flyballet, et al) happy to work with others wanting to lead events to help to make those events fun and successful.

You can say all that you want, but I asked for suggestions and input ad nauseum early in the thread, and got little or nothing. If people who vaguely said they were interested, and then could not come up with any ideas, then yes, I stand by my statements. I've been to a few DO's now, and there is a noticeable difference to how gay people respond and how the general population responds. Just my opinion, from experience of dealing with gay people over 30 years plus. No offense intended, just my experience.

This year was my first. I'll be back next year but with a more adventurous group of friends.

Though almost everything at the fair wasn't my "scene" (which those of you who've met me could attest to) I really enjoyed observing the different "types" there. Definitely eye opening..

I think your last part is spot on.

I've been to a few DO's so far from the tightly regimented and controlled ones with airlines to more informal brunches and I would strongly contest your thought that the gays are less responsive. I would actually say that we're a bit more responsive and a larger percentage of DO attendees than expected. Just wait for ATL and you'll see what I mean.

I think that it was more a measure of the way that this was planned & the location of the planning (instead of stuff in the Castro) than anything.

It has been my experience that it all has to do with a core group who WANTS the event to be a success and is willing to work towards that goal.Just like a good party a Comander needs his Wingman(or Wingwomen)to make sure folks get introduced and involved.

A succesfull event also need a leader who, while strong willed enough to set out a general outline of an event(while listening for GOOD advice from the hopeful attendees)and sticks to that plan-a plan which includes a reasonable amount of consideration towards having a INCLUSIVE good time for all involved. Also if only a small group shows interest in the venue/event you are suggesting so be it. Not every event has to be a mega do.Attraction rather than promotion is often the best course in these matters.

I have been fortunate to be surrounded by good, caring and interesting Flyertalkers both Gay and Straight.I have enjoyed both Gay and Straight get togethers. You will get out of these events what you put into it-just like life.

I look forward to many more Flyertalk get togethers in the future.

The leather / fetish "scene" certainly isn't my scene either, but since the very first Fair I attended in 2005 I think, I found / bought / conjured up a fun, cool outfit that really makes me feel a part of it, as opposed to just an attendee / gawker! (Don't worry, I still GAWK!!!) When I show people pics, I tell them that I do this ONE day a year!! Period!

Thank you for being another one to confirm what I was saying. The OP kept repeating that gay people can't commit - and as with recent past national political leadership, just because you keep repeating it, doesn't make it true!

Well, to be honest I haven't followed this thread since I decided Folsom wouldn't be the best idea for me this year, but I can't help but at Vuelos's characterization. I hope to be one of those adventurous friends next year (and the 59 MMS I received lead me to believe you might be more into certain scenes that you are aware). Where is the :loaf: icon when you need it?

@wiredboy10003, thanks for keeping me out past my bedtime tonight.
