I just had a similar experience at the FRA Z gates, I was forced to use the EES machine again by a person who didnt understand what EasyPass was, but when I got to the EasyPass gate line, the person there was surprised I was told to to use the EES machine and told me to just go ahead through EasyPass, which worked perfectly. I still got a stamp in the passport from the officer though, so that process hasnt ended yet it seems.
