I am not sure what I have missed. I agree, in rush hour the bus and trains could be faster; however the S-Bahn might run delayed (which is the reason why we suggested RB / RE instead of S-Bahn

Your plan includes quite a lot of travel. BOS-AMS-TXL/SXF-ORY in a row. 3 nights there and back to Berlin, then train to Dresden. Next day 6 hours by train to Munich, back after 2-3 nights to Dresden and immediately on to Berlin and next day TXL-AMS-BOS.
It's up to you but I would strongly suggest to stay in Dresden for the time in between. Much to do and to see. If you are tired of Dresden the river Elbe valley is nice (even in November), take a day trip to the Elbsandsteingebirge (very scenic mountains, 30 min) or Prague (2:18 by train).

I didn't realize it was 6 hours to Munich. I thought it was 4 for some reason. But I really wanted to see Neuschwanstein. I wish there were more flight options from Dresden.

The TXL bus is always crammed with passengers. I do not recommend taking it for this reason. And it also takes a long time to travel into the center of town. May I suggest taking the X9 bus from Tegel to the Zoologischer Garten train station. It takes about 15 minutes to get there, and it only makes four or five designated stops along the way. Once you are at the Zoo Bhf, go to the regional train platforms. Twice an hour, a regional train goes from there to SXF airport station. The ABC zone ticket you purchase at the airport is valid for only 2 hours, and this would be the quickest journey IMO. I do not recommend using the S-Bahn mainly because it takes a long time. And you will have to transfer trains at the Ostkreuz S-Bahn station (which right now is a major construction project). The S9 train does not run on the main city line any more (since the Ostkreuz station reconstruction began). It makes up part of the eastern section of the Ringbahn.

Ok - I've read this several times very carefully. Thank you all for your help. I just have a couple detail questions.
Editing to add - the website is awesome. I've been playing around with the interactive map. It does look like the X9 option is shorter but I can't plot that in the Route planner. Maybe because it's not the best way even though it looks shorter??
Avoid the S-Bahn. I can relate to that - one of the Boston subway lines is to be avoided if at all possible!
Option #1 -
1. From airport, get ABC ticket from Bus Driver for TXL Bus that says S+U Alexanderplatz via Hauptbahnhof
2. Get off at Hauptbahnhof
3. Take Regional Train on Track 12
Either RB7 or RE14. Question - in FLYGVA's post, the RBs and REs were mixed up. Does it matter?
4. If RB7, take towards Wunsdorf-Waldstadt, Bahnhof and get off at Schonefeld.
5. Question - if RE14, towards where?
Option #2 -
1. At airport get ABC ticket from driver and take X9 bus to Zoologicagischer Garten
2. Go to regional train platform. Question - is the train platform in the same station as the bus will drop us off?
3. Take regional train to Schonefeld - 3 questions - which train? Which track? Towards which direction?
Of these 2 options, is there a consensus of which is fastest? I know everyone has their own opnions about the best way to get anywhere but I thought I'd ask anyway.
And finally - if we are late landing at Tegel - should we just take a taxi?
And I really appreciate this help. I will also be asking about getting from Dresden to Munich - should that be a separate post?

Train from Berlin Bahnhof Zoo (or: Zoologischer Garten) leaves -38 and -04 from Platform 2. Same trains as from Hauptbahnhof; these stations are three (train-) minutes away from each other. RB and RE does not matter, for you it means the same. The RB train terminates at the airport. RB is a Regaion Train, RE is a Regional Express.
The routes are more or less the same when it comes to time. Central station is a tourst site itself, so it can be interesting to change there. Zoo is a tine station and the bus stop is just across the road from the station, so it is easier to navigate. But to be honest - even without the instructions you got here you would not get lost.
What means "late landing"? Until midnight nothing should be a problem. Berlin is a safe and easy place.
And Dresden to Munich? Train will take about six hours with a change in Nürnberg. Flight will be 60 minutes. Dresden Airport is 20 minutes out of town, easiest by taxi or train. Munich airport is 45 minutes out of town, easiest and cheapest by taxi. Don't thing about the american way of travel and avoid renting a car :-)

Munich and Dresden have a very bad raillink (no high speed rail), hence the traveltime is pretty long. Flights from DRS to MUC are frequent are relatively cheap if you shop around a bit. Füssen/Neuschwanstein can be done by car from Munich airport. If you want to do it as a day trip. If you have time, ride the train.

I just meant that we are supposed to land at 1250. If we land at 1400 or later, should I take a taxi?
There's a flight??? What other airlines are there besides EasyJet? They do not fly from Dresden to Munich. I would definitely look into that. Thanks!

Can you get to Neuschanstein by public transportation?

just search using an online travel agent like expedia:
http://www.expedia.com/Flights-Searc...ce&mode=search
Lufthansa flies regularly between Dresden and Munich.
Once at the airport, take public transport to get to Neuschwanstein, a sample timetable search is here:
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/que...button.suchen=
Since its all light rail and regional rail, you buy a so called 'Bayern Ticket' at Munich airport that only costs 26 euros for two persons at the train ticket counter and you will be able to ride the trains for free from 9am till 3am the next day.

I have no idea why it didn't dawn on me to check Kayak, et al, other than I had been using EasyJet to fly to Paris and didn't even think of using "regular" airlines.
But if there are other cut rate airlines like Easy Jet that I should check, please let me know. And thank you for the tip on the train tickets.

Just want to add, that you can but a oneway ticket from Dresden to Munich on Lufthansa.com and a oneway ticket from Munich to Berlin.
Just in case, if this is an option as well (I know, you daughter is in Dresden, but this would maybe save you from the hassle of Berlin - Dresden - Munich (Neuschwanstein) - Munich - Dresden - Berlin.
(for the record Air Berlin is flying Munich - Berlin as well)

FLYGVA or anyone else - I just plugged in my date and time of trip between Tegel and Schonefeld on the http://www.fahrinfo-berlin.de/Fahrin...8254842&#focus website and it said this under alerts:
(translated by google translate) The line will be diverted in the direction S + U Alexanderplatz station on Alt-Moabit and Rachel Hirsch Street. The stations S + U Bahnhof Station and Washington Square are not served. Therefore a replacement station in Rachel Hirsch road is established.
Should I worry about this? Does this mean that we'll have to leave the train and find an alternate and then get back on the train? Or does it just mean that there will be no stopping at these stops? I am all worried about this now.

Maybe some of the flyertalkers living in Berlin or recently there could provide more information.
