I think the new carry-on rules for the average traveler make sense. Too many well oversized carry-ons that barely fit in the overheads (especially on ATRs). What makes no sense to me is:
1) Why the 8kg limit for all items? If the worry is that people will cram 20kgs in bags and break the overhead bins, limit it to 8kg per bag that goes up top...who cares if you have 8kg worth of laptops and duty free stashed under the seat. 2) Why piss off your loyal status members, especially when it comes to a few kg up top or down below? I know the answer to both of these (€€€€) but it stinks.

But this is what they wanna do Quote:
You can purchase seats until very close to the flight’s departure, and therefore it is possible that someone has purchased the seat we had already assigned to you. If you prefer a certain type of seat, we recommend you purchase it in advance. Additionally, there might be changes due to operational, safety, or security reasons. What about those who have chosen seats based on status but haven't paid? |

I always check a bag, unless I'm going on a day trip. In more than a decade of frequent air travel, I've had zero cases of lost baggage and three cases of delayed baggage (two of them were misconnections, bags were delivered at my home the next day, and the in the third case it was misplaced at the arrival airport and took around an hour to deliver).
Lucky you, that you never arrived to BKK with an agent waiting for you at the carousel, informing that your luggage was not loaded (BA) - this on a week long business trip, where you spent every night at a different Thai village, so that it had no chance to catch up with you. I was reunited with my luggage on the last night of the trip in Bangkok. Lucky you, that you never arrived at night to AMM with only a camera and laptop (RJ) because your luggage preferred the beauty of CDG and the list goes on and on |
Whta really annoys me is the totally substandard 8kg weight limit on cabin bag regardless of size, travel class or status of the passenger. Just a very quick and dirty comparison of weight allowances of a couple of other carriers:
KLM: Y: 12kg; J: 18kg SAS: 8kg but does not include duty-free or airport purchases BA: 2 x 23 kg TK: Y: 1 x 8kg + personal item (max 4kg); J: 2 x 8kg + personal item (max 4kg) LH: Y: 1 x 8kg; J: 2x 8 kg. DY: 10kg, Flex-ticket: 15 kg. BT: 8kg, for additional fee 12 kg Easyjet: 15 kg |
Let's flood AY with negative feedback via all channels: Feedback form via website, Plat Whatsapp and social media. The more negative feedback, the better. They didn't go ahead with the cabin crew outsourcing so maybe there is a small chance they will revert some of this ridiculous changes if we are loud enough.

At least the feedback on AY's Facebook site seems overwhelmingly negative: The enhancements were published yesterday and the post has gathered ca 360 comments (of which 99.9% appear to be negative) and ca 460 reactions (out of which ca 50% are the "angry face" emoji). As a comparison when they enhanced away the pillows and champagne late March that post has so far gathered ca 230 comments (mostly negative but more mixed) and ca 420 reactions (out of which only ca 35 with the "angry face" emoji) so these news seem to have really hit the nerve of an avarage passenger.

Now they say 8 kg including anything bought at the airport (one 1 L glass bottle is easily 1.5 kg, add a laptop that they don't allow in the checked bag and the weight of an empty carry-on bag, and you are not fram from 8 kg).

Really? Not even kidding? And they said to pack own snacks for the flight just few months ago.
Also Finnair: you're gonna have to pay to bring those snacks and travel pillows on board because they're going to put your bag "overweight" and possibly not fit within our strict dimensions And something I caught from a comment on the Facebook post...medical equipment, such as CPAP machines, are also going to be considered a separate carry-on item, unless it and its weight is shoved in your carryon, which that poster said would make Finnair the only airline with such policy. |

Well this change really hits the Y-light non-status pax the hardest, the impact on FFs is limited
However, should AY really start to enforce the carry-on weight (which they now decrease to 8kg from the current J allowance of 10 kg) then that's a totally different game status passengers. Optimistically, I'd think that starting to enforce the weight limit for J/Lumo/Plat passengers would be total madness from AY's side but with the recent developments I tend to wonder more and more what AY management is smoking so I've turned more to the pessimistic side. |

Weird, really weird. |
"The new pricing applies to new upgrades made on or after 15 June 2023. Please note that the points will be charged separately for each flight."
Meaning no free connecting segment when upgrading, right? "We have revised the pricing of award flights that you can purchase with Finnair Plus points; it will require more points than before to purchase an award flight. You will also need to pay a surcharge in addition to the points. The new point pricing applies to new award bookings made on or after 15 June 2023. When your award ticket is issued on or after 15 June, a surcharge will be collected. Please note that the surcharge must be paid with money – it is not possible to use points for it." They don't say it right out, but there is no mention about any taxes whatsoever. Could it be that this new surcharge includes taxes? Probably wishful thinking, but shouldn't they mention that in addition to points and co-pay, you also need to pay the taxes? "Complimentary transfer of Finnair Plus award points applies to transfers made online at Finnair Shop. A normal €20 service charge for point transfers made through our customer service will be added. Complimentary transfer of award points can be done multiple times per tracking period." Is this an improvement? Free transfer of points across all accounts? |

Slightly off-topic but does this mean we’ll see Finnish crew back on routes such as DEL and SIN also now or does the agreement just mean they won’t lose the little remaining long-haul routes such as BKK and USA?

If I were the management of HEL Airport I would be unhappy that my largest customer is actively selling a product that works against my own commercial needs (selling fags and booze). I'd be looking for some form of compensation in the form of raised aero charges to the airline. This is a unilateral commercial decision and not one based on safety or security matters.
