Based on my recent experiences, not necessarily. It would seem AY is only checking bags that are on one PNR, not even combining luggages from AY to another AY itinerary. So, changes of checking through to another airlines is slim, but maybe QR has better rules?

And in February, AY did not want to through check bags on MH itienary (I.e. AY to SIN and MH from SIN).

In my case i would check in with QR and only the final leg is AY CPH-HEL. You would think that "strategic partnership" between QR and AY would allow simple luggage interlining like this. I cancelled my BA award and booked QR award instead and i will also book with QR my CPH-HEL leg. Maybe this will make things easier. Unfortunately can't combine the award tickets online so 2 separate tickets again..
