Check the "Fare basis". Here's an example: TVA2DE - booking class T, booking type VAlu, 2 for return and DEutschland=Germany as marketing (?) region.

AY has removed the Fare_Branding_User_Guide_Travel_Agencies.pdf from their site. Did anyone make a local copy for sharing? I know it wasn't exactly accurate anymore, but still better than nothing..

Does anyone know how booking class E earns?

Zilch. It's non-rev travel.

Bump! Can someone help me unpack the fare basis code SNVA2GOV? Booked through a travel agent in Finland; I was surprised to earn 100% on both legs to/from Tokyo. What happened to the joint venture? :O

Seems like it’s a Value fare and maybe for government?

intuition May 21, 2018 10:48 am

Apparently so, but isn't it interesting there still are VA fares to Japan around, when it has been "banned" since the inception of JJV?

Courmisch May 21, 2018 10:48 am

Presumably S booking code, value (VA) ticket type, round-trip (2) issued in "GOV".

N would presumably be a season code, though I only know low (L) and high (H). Maybe GOV gets a special "not applicable" season?

Surely they still can force them if they have some ”corporate” or ”government” fares that might even be the same for all long-haul routes.

Insofar as it is ostensibly a contract fare that plebeians cannot purchase, my answer would be "no".

intuition May 21, 2018 11:12 am

Well, I find it interesting insofar that VA are there in order to extract more money without offering much in return and the only group that are targeted by the fare type is civil servants flying on taxpayers money.

Courmisch May 21, 2018 1:12 pm

Well, if you want to get there, it is interesing that the government sources Value ticket in S booking code, which would also be compatible with Basic. Maybe it always buys Value tickets because it wants semiflexible fares, or because it wants a bag, and thought Value was the way (even though Basic is still available even in short-haul).

But that is probably nothing to Japan, and probably got nothing to do with the transiberian JV.

Funny thing is, I'm not a civil servant ... just wondering here whether the fact that I had a connecting flight within Japan has anything to do with the fare. Price was decent as well, 750€ for HEL-NRT-HEL.

That being said, I've never seen a fare basis code like this before when travelling for business.
