When I was reading, I saw Gary post an article about some zany story in some odd part of the world. The problem was that in the "More from the VFTW" link section, there was a link to the same story on Gary's blog, posted several years earlier. Gary had forgotten that he had written the first article about the zany story, years had passed, Gary saw it again, and then wrote about it as if it were a new story. This got deleted pretty quick. Personally, I found some of his jokes offensive enough that it was time for me to stop reading months ago.

CVS boo ..
So a really odd article by Gary that obviously wasn't checked for facts - & it's just poor form when the link to the H/T doesn't work
https://viewfromthewing.com/one-marr...-shampoo-back/
In a cross between the two strategies, the Sheraton Taipei is offering a coupon worth about $3.28 at CVS in exchange for your returning unused single use personal amenities.
Let's see if he reads & replies to the comments, but there are no CVS's in Taipei ..
And what's his beef / pure disdain for hotel Bulk toiletries?
https://viewfromthewing.com/marriott...dy-a-disaster/
Does he even know that there are other types of dispensers & not just those that he's seen, most likely only in the States (TX?) or where-ever he's from
He really gets worked up over a dude discharging something into his bulk shampoo ...
And guests have been known to put stuff in them you wouldn’t want there. Even where there have been safeguarding locks in place I’ve had rooms where those weren’t locked.
Seriously - there are much more important things happening in the world to lose grey matter over than shampoo & body soap .. sheesh

Today Gary pushed the 70K American Airlines business card, saying "There’s never been a better public offer for this card." In the comments I posted a link to a 75K offer for the same card. The post was not allowed. This has happened frequently before. The link to the card has been on my and Doctor of Credit's website for a long time. So beware, and learn which websites always post the best offers the authors know about, regardless of whether or not a commission is earned.

Gary does seem to have a bit of an obsession over bodily fluids. I've seen a lot of post headlines involving urination and defecation over the years.

VFTW seems to cover AA a lot, but where is the VFTW on the AA bank card-churning-related shutdowns? Seems like a big thing for a miles and points bank card-pushing blogger to leave out when AA is so near and dear to VFTW in ways.

He's chimed in in the comments on some other blogs who've posted about it early on. He didn't seem terribly well-informed of the correct details of the issue. His compatriot Lucky posted about it the other day...which was particularly rich given his history.

Int'l F. No acknowledgment in the cabin until 3 minutes to pushback (let alone PDBs), 1st course not served until 2h30m into flight (on an overnight!). FA broke a glass in my seat. Purser threatened my wife. It went on from there.

H/t to TBB/gpapadop for this one.
Gary is on an upcoming panel - https://loyaltysecurityassociation.c...-2020-webinar/
So, tell the loyalty programs what constitutes outsided value, so they can close those "vulnerabilities"?
Gary is on an upcoming panel - https://loyaltysecurityassociation.c...-2020-webinar/
This session will feature a panel discussion on vulnerabilities in Loyalty Programs’ Terms & Conditions and what can be done to close these loopholes. It will also offer the opportunity to ask questions of “white hat gamers” with deep experience in how members gain outsized value from loyalty program offerings.

View from the Wing has lost its touch.
In the world of travel blogs, View from the Wing is a name that many of us recognize. It was one of the first blogs I started reading once I became obsessed with keeping up with the latest news in aviation, hotels and credit card points. Gary was genuinely one of the people that I knew I could rely on getting the most useful tips as I embarked on learning about the in's and out's of all that you could imagine about travel.
"Thought leader in travel" is what he calls himself, and for a long time, this statement held true in my eyes. But no more.
I am extremely saddened to have watched the demise of his language, perspective and commentary on various issues over the years. VFTW used to be a blog that represented truthful source for things. I appreciate Gary has the candor to be able to call out various airlines for poor behaviors--no airline CEO has been exempt from his pointed commentary. These great moments are overshadowed by his poor moments. In one of the more recent postings, titled, "Porn Star Yanked Off United Flight After Speaking Out On Protests," he opened with the following:
"Elle Knox, a porn star whose twitter profile says she “likes to get naked and travel” was ‘pulled off’ a United Airlines flight from Houston to San Francisco on Tuesday after speaking out against ‘unjust killing of African Americans."
In doing so, Gary created an environment where people were encouraged to prioritize the fact that this passenger was a porn star rather than focusing on the fact that a passenger made a stand about the current events. Regardless of how you feel about current events, political statements being made on planes and whatnot, it is worthwhile to call out that her profession has no actual bearing on this event. Why does it matter that she was a porn star? Does that make her statement on what's going on less of a real opinion? Does Gary know that this is really just invoking people to be "quick witted" to slander the woman in question with comments that read like "I'll gladly give her some attention." "Just an attention whore, umm a regular one also."
Disappointing.
BoardingArea has long stood as the launchpad for a collection of insightful bloggers and journalists. Today, VFTW has turned into a forum in which many racist, misogynists and sexists people can find inspiration to spew their values by typing in amazing levels of nonsense like "She should stick to what she does best." Is this really what BoardingArea and VFTW have come to?
I used to look up to him. Since then, Gary has chosen to default to such max-click-through titling no matter the damage. If he wants to claim to be a thought leader in TRAVEL, he should act like a leader and set a good example for other bloggers.
We need real thought readers. Come back to us, Gary.
