Royal Laurel Class offers a reverse herringbone layout of lie-flat (180 degree recline) seats in a 1 - 2 - 1 layout on all Boeing 777-300ERs. All 777-300ERs have been converted to Royal Laurel (77W/77N). New 77A will be added mid 2014.

Their food is actually on par with CX and SQ biz class, at least on the JFK/Tpe route. It's a shame the first meal is after take-off, around 3 am in the morning. Half of us are already tucked in, with eye shades on.
Then nothing except snacks until the breakfast 13 hrs later.

I am a little confused about EVA's class system, hoping that someone can clarify.
From what I read here, I understood that Royal Laurel/Premium Laurel is EVA's business class. So if I book a *A award ticket in business class, I end up sitting in RL/PL, right? Even if the plane has a 3 class configuration: PL+Elite+Economy? Does Elite correspond to Premium Economy then? Thanks.

I am booked on Aeroplan award YVR-TPE in April 2014 on 744 Premium Laurel. Is it OK for sleeping? Is there a chance they will switch to RL aircraft by that time?

If I were you, echino, I'd keep an eye out for availability out of LAX and SFO, and see if you can reroute yourself if something becomes available. Worst case remember, you're not paying YQ Also consider CA out of LAX.

From what I see, VIE->BKK->TPE is on the Airbus and will have the old seats.
