How to properly book a stopover?

Hello,

For the last couple of days, I've been searching for tickets for my parents, LGW-DXB-SYD-DXB-LGW. I found a reasonably priced itinerary at ITA, and looked up the fare rules regarding stopovers:

6 STOPOVERS PERMITTED
LIMITED TO 4 FREE AND 2 AT GBP 75.00 EACH.
1 FREE IN DXB IN EACH DIRECTION
2 FREE AT ANY OTHER POINT
2 AT GBP 75.00 EACH.
However, if I try to book a ticket at eg Opodo selecting 'multi city', the ticket prices 100GBP higher than the price quoted at ITA. Same goes for booking a ticket on Emirates.com using the stopover 'tab'.

How is this possible? More importantly: How can I book a free stopover?

It's probably the different taxes.

For example, if you stay a couple of nights in XXX, you have to pay a departure tax that you wouldn't if you were just in transit.

Cheers,
Rick

A "free" stopover isn't really free. You have to pay additional airport taxes.

Are you stopping over in DXB? If so, the stopover charge should be AED 30 (less than US$10) If you give us the exact route, we can try and see what is going on. It is usually easier with EK fares becamse almost all of the fare is contained within the base fare. There is no YQ surcharge etc added.

Cheers,

If your stopovers are on the way back, I'd suggest booking the tickets without the stopover; after flying the first sector, you could add a stopover for no charge (provided up to 96 hours at DXB).

I remember reading somewhere that DXB airport tax is waived for such stopovers.
Also, try Emirates' website for that matter (advanced search: by schedule + add a stopover).

Cheers

Cheers,
Emirates has one of the lowest taxes amongst all airlines. Their fares from India have one of the lowest taxes.
I thought taxes are deteremined by the Govt and not the airlines.BA taxes are a true ripoff.
Kindly explain Mr Sadiqhassan how Emirates manages to charge such low taxes

It's taxes *and surcharges*. Thus, BA charges a fuel surcharge. EK does not.

The taxes are government set, whereas some of the surcharges are airline set.

Rick

Go to make a booking on www.emirates.com you can use the stop over or advanced search! It's really very straight forward, and you will not notice a huge difference in price, in fact, you may get it cheaper as there are some cheaper flights from LHR that do not connect with the SYD flights, so you may actually find its cheaper to book a stop!

In my experience the stopovers on the most direct routing are the cheapest. For instance xxx-DXB-xxx. I guess cheapest taxes in DXB.

I booked a flight which arrives in the morning from NBO and my flight goes to LHR 2 hours later. Can I add a stopover now already at no cost?
