It would not surprise me if they adjusted for the narrower fuselage of the A350 by keeping all the dimensions of the seat fixtures the same as the "new" J on the 77W, and reducing the seat cushion width instead. Which is completely the wrong thing to do, but nevertheless unsurprising.

Im pretty sure that the current 77W J seat is wider than the current A380 J seat, at least it feels like that. There is quite a lot wrong with the 77W J product, but seat with is not part of that.

Both STN rotations and one of the four MLE flights look to be some of the next flights set to receive the new 77W J come April.

This video is not clickbait, it shows compellingly the problem.

I did a short hop on EK837 to BAH last week and tried out the full recline briefly. It was not noticeably narrower to me. Armrest does not move, but it didnt bother me. As with the other EK J seats Id expect that above-average and below build people will be fine. YMMV.

Good to know! Just came across another recent video report and they deliberately tested out the armrest/bed situation at 17:30:

Given the narrower width of the A350 vs 777, however, perhaps this is a non-issue on the 777.

With respect, I won’t watch YouTube videos of things I’ve experienced myself. Before, maybe. Afterwards, my experience is my experience. So whatever the guy who relies on clicks to make a living says, I either agree if he’s saying what I’m saying, or I disagree if he’s not 😂.

Whatever the many drawbacks of the 77W J seat may be, I have always 'felt' it to be wider than the A380 J seat. So the wider armrests in the new 77W J product do worry me from that aspect.
But based on what I have seen and heard I'll take it any day over the old 77W J product....

For a panicked moment I thought ICN and STN were getting the A359 and losing F. They’re getting the refurbed J seat on the 77W?

Correct.

EK815/816 RUH will get the 77W with new J as of Mar 30
EK817/818 RUH will get the 77W with new J as of May 7

RUH will then have all three flights operating with 77Ws with the new J seat.

I was wondering how it would be possible for South Africa not to get Premium Economy when so much of the fleet is being retrofitted. Nice to get some refurbed aircraft on the route.

Thanks for this.

CPT? I can hardly believe it! From E6-EBx frames to new J. I never expected to see pigs fly but there you have it!
I'm usually on 772/773 (like next week), but I'll change the routine for this.
