New 777 J class

The new 1-2-1 J class on the 777 is set to operate as of 11 August, yet to date there’s been no further information about the design of the seats other than the generic press release: https://www.emirates.com/media-centre/emirates-unveils-first-destinations-to-be-served-with-refurbished-boeing-777/

Presumably they’re likely to be an exact replica of the existing 380 J seats? Otherwise you would have thought that Emirates would have been building up the hype a bit more…

Yes, it's odd... I've heard EK intends to make more of a 'Big Bang' about the arrival of the A350 and the return to Edinburgh, but still, to not take advantage of the seemingly-obvious free kick from the new B777 business class seems odd...

Maybe they aren't mentioning the new B777 as it could invite comparisons to the vast bulk of the actually-in-the-air 777 fleet...

Yes - they made that mistake with the "Game Changer" F... Now gets referred to as Old v New F on the B777.

Pictures of the first retrofitted B777 have been released:

Effectively a copy of the A380 seats.

Will be flown to GVA today as EK 83.

Looks like some very slight differences (seat controls and power outlets look different, and the “aisle guard” is different for alternating seats is what I can spot) , but essentially the same as the most recent 388 J seat, yes.

I like the additional "headrest pillow" in the new business class seat and and the color tone of the cabin but not a game changer or industry leading product. PE looks really nice.

I doubt EK will ever have an industry leading J product. The airlines that do have limited or no F. EK has a lot of F seats to fill, and they need clear differentiation in the products to balance out.

But maybe the seat in the A350 will be a bigger evolution. They have referred to that seat as a “next generation” seat, and I don’t think I’ve seen that wording used to describe the retrofit seat.

Quite a let down but not entirely surprising.

I now suspect that these seats will also be used for the A350…
