It's one thing booking a flight, it's another having the flight materialise.

UAE airports and immigration are closed to everyone except UAE nationals and residents with permission to return.

For example, in South Africa, where I am at the moment, there is no chance that airports will open to international travellers before September and some people are talking end of the year or early 2021.

I'm guessing someone has drunk a little too munch and confused June with July, that would make sense but July I have flights in July and I hope they don't cancel them

There are probably 30,000 residents stuck outside; many are white collar workers, others may be blue collar workers

There is an even larger number of people who may have lost their jobs and are inside the UAE now, both white and blue collar.

Cynically speaking, the ones without jobs and inside can fill in for those stuck outside so there is no pressing need to let them in...

One thing I don't understand; Dubai is implementing forced quarantine for people returning by keeping them in specific hotels (and is already being done by citizens returning and also the 5% of expats given approval to return)

Many white collar expats stuck abroad would be more than happy to pay themselves for such a quarantine as long as they are allowed back.

That would also have added some much needed revenue for the hotel sector

With this massive increase in operations, any news on when transit will be allowed?

Would also be nice to spend a few nights on a stopover in July/August, but reading this thread it seems like a pipe dream.

My understanding is that transit has been allowed since the 21st May on the routes being operated. If you're still seeing a "flights to Dubai only" message while booking, it's a bug leftover from when that was the rule. Go back to the homepage and try again, or try on the app.

Yes, my understanding is also that transits (stay airside, leave within 24 hours) are allowed. But stopovers (go landside, spend the night in a hotel etc) are most likely not (but I have not checked / confirmed this).

You still can't enter the UAE as a non-UAE National (tens of thousands of UAE residents with visas are still stuck abroad) so only transits are possible at this time. Considering the likely quarantine requirements, a stopover in Dubai enroute will be off the cards for a long time.

DXB Airside hotel website suggests that it is open, in case the transit is very long. OT but hilarious to see a "Royal Suite at B-gates" for USD 2000.

Entry into UAE is allowed for UAE residents with ICA approval. Plenty of people have started to receive approvals via email with more to be processed in the coming weeks now that Eid is over.

I have a flight booked for July 1, ICN to LHR via DXB. Both flights state A380 (hah).

Transit passengers (non UAE residents) are being allowed, right?

Also, are upgrades closer to departure being offered at discount rates by any chance?

Could anyone please either confirm or provide a source stating that transfers are allowed for non-UAE nationals (same as QR)? Thank you!

Yes, it's confirmed - but maybe only between UK and Australia at the moment??? This is part of an email Emirates sent out

Today in ATM webinar, Sir Tim disclosed that EK can mobilize its fleet within 48 hrs, also.. predictably monitoring global situation 24/7.

Coincided that Sheikh Al Maktoum hinted that opening of UAE coming nearer.

Interesting article also in The National and Khaleetimes on the ATM webinar. EK is preparing to expand its network to service 50 destinations by the end of June, according to Adel Al Redha, chief operating officer at Emirates.
