Well, I often buy Bateel dates or Al Nassma chocolates for gift (I don't buy beforehand to avoid crushing or melting).
Otherwise, apart from the super car sweepstake , not so many interesting deal indeed. It's cheaper at the local mall.

Anyway, there are always lots of people ... trying to kill transit time maybe ?

Climb down the A388 inner FWD stairs, then the Passenger Stairs in the summer heat (120+F). Then the 15/20 min bus ride ... The bus may be extra comfortable (and extra cold), it just ruins everything.
On top of that, if transit time is short, if you have some duty-free purchases to do, and if you have loads of 388 pax lining for security check ... you just swear "never again".
A small and relatively easy improvement would be to install moving walkways everywhere.

And that was not it.
My connection left from the A gates which was almost an HOUR hike! Finding your way among HUGE crowds, pushing and pulling in the train, etc.
What idiot designed this mess of an airport??
If you think LHR is bad, go to DXB!
I had the same last year. The A380 from AMS got parked on a remote site and it took a 30 minutes bus ride to terminal 3. And the way back to the connecting flight to CPT was the same long bus ride to a remote location where the 77W was parked. But we had 4 hours transit, so it was no big deal.
And I like the BIG terminal 3.

Possible capacity problems on terminal 3 ?

A single, big terminal is not an efficient design. A central core with several spokes is.

Somehow, that's what they are trying to do with Terminal A, B, C, and now D.

As long as they are aiming to be the biggest hub in the world, transfer time cannot be short.
As for remote stand, it comes from the "shortage" of gates. The only way to solve it is ... by adding new terminals.

We are already complaining (somehow rightfully) about DXB. How will all this be with DWC and its five runways !!!

How would you suggest they do that? DXB is more or less surrounded by roads and buildings. There is very little room for expansion.

As I understand it the terminal buildings are on one side of the field only. You could built another set of terminals on the other side and use the center of the field for take-off, landing, and taxying.

Edit to add: even better would be to have only the gates (spokes) along the lenght of the field and built the central core underground, central field.

Terminal 2 is on the other side of the airfield, and that's also been extended. Again, it's surrounded, so they can only really expand within the confines of the existing airfield, ie. lengthways.

Have a look at the attached pic... it should show how hard it is to expand DXB much further.

Cigarettes are way cheaper than the UK. I don't smoke but get it for my friends. Spirits like vodka are also cheaper as well.Electronics are more expensive than the UK.

I never buy gold bullion from the airport duty free as its way overpriced than the UK

You don't need to declare these with customs in the arrival country as long as its within the duty free limit.

On another note if you look at the customs limit for spirits Dubai has one of the highest limits in the world. It is something like 4 litres per person AFAIK

Lots of room under the entire tarmac.

What, where all the fuel lines, drainage and electrics are?

Far easier and cheaper just to build a new airport...oh wait...http://www.dwc.ae

Plus, did you remember the chaos when they closed one runway for an upgrade back in 2014? Hope we don't see a repeat of that!

Got parked on a remote stand this morning.

Interestingly (for J bus at least) they directed about 10-12 connecting destinations to a separate bus. I was terminating at DXB and hence went to terminal 3(B). Based on some of destinations listed it would make sense if the other bus had gone directly to concourse A. We landed on time as well.

Interesting to see if they roll this out.

During the pre-Christmas busy period, for the first time ever (in about 4 years of EK travel) was funnelled towards the secondary shuttle train between concourse A and B that is somewhat parallel to the regular shuttle train - now THAT was poorly designed with bottlenecks between the platform queuing area and the rest of the concourse in both A and B.

Glad that I haven't encountered this before and hope not to do so again!

Had this happen once during one of those peak departure days. Total zoo!
