Upgrade with Points at check in.

Grrrrr.......

I wanted to upgrade one of these new type of fares that can only be upgraded 24 hours before the flight.

I went online, and there was availability. Hurrah!

However, it wouldn't let me do it as I didn't have enough points in my account to upgrade all the passengers on the booking. I was expecting the points to be taken from my and my girlfriends accounts.

I specifically purchased extra points for her so we could both upgrade.

I'll try again at the airport tomorrow, but all the seats will probably have gone by then.

Is this normal, of did I miss an option somewhere?

Cheers

Yip. Normal. To upgrade pax from seperate accounts you need to call Skywards or try at the airport (it would be useful to have your gf handy as they may want to verify that she has given permission for the miles to be deducted from her account as well).

I recommend you call ASAP while the seats are available.

It may be that only the airport or OLCI can upgrade you, in which case perhaps you can ask for PNRs to be split and then upgrade online...

How can you check this type of availability? Do you have to click on "upgrade with miles"? How better are the rates compared to standard upgrade for miles?

Call skywards.

I've had to split bookings before and process upgrades separately due to this...

call Skywards and they would be able to split the booking and sort it out.

My issue is that I'm in Dubai, and don't have easy access to a phone. My UK phone is blocked (thanks boss).

Anyway, lesson learnt, I'll just brave economy tomorrow, and use the points next time.

Mission accomplished

I'd given up hope, but asked at the check in desk. Now in row 6.

On my first glass of red in the lounge.

VOIP is your answer! - some even offer free calls to the USA

Have a great not-in-Y flight.
