Ek406 today

So today's flight has gone tech we are in F (probably opt first and last f flight ever) we were so looking forward to this! So the options are to be rebooked on to tomorrow's flight with a night in a hotel or air New Zealand economy seat! We've opted for tomorrow's flight but can I (should I) ask for some miles/cash as compensation for the inconvenience? Please don't shoot me down in flames it's just that we've saved for nearly 3 years for this trip and we are so looking forward to the f experience and will now miss out on a day with the family, now only 6 days instead of 7!

I suppose I'm asking what's typical in these situations.

That's

Jo

Jo: I would definitely be asking for some kind of 'compensation' if I was in the same situation, based simply on that you have missed one day of your holidays (I imagine you also had paid up front for the hotel at your destination and you've thus missed your first night there and might be out of pocket for that also?).

Jo,

I am very sorry for the inconvenience caused - and it must be very disappointing. I caught the 406 earlier this week and we were 3 hours late (plane went tech in Dubai but they managed to get it sorted out apparently)

If you are in revenue F from MEL to AKL, then you are entitled to the fare difference between your F fare and the fare you end up flying, plus a downgrade voucher (or in this case, an upgrade voucher to use on your next flight) plus I would expect some sort of goodwill gesture on behalf of EK as far as Skywards miles goes.

You need to persist with this. If you dont receive the adequate compensation after the first call/email, call again.

Let me know if you need help with this. Try and have it dealt with by Skywards in Aus (I had no idea they had a 200 seat call centre here!)...

I'm assuming that you are flying MEL-AKL given the NZ alternative

I would be surprised if there would be much in the way of compensation given the option of another flight and you chose to stick with the 1st class on following day and given that Australia has no mandatory compensation requirements

Wow thanks for all your fast replies!! I'm getting more cheesed off as the hours go by! We knew at 8am the plane was tech, we made the decision to switch to tomorrow's flight at 9am and we are still sitting here at 11am waiting for "someone to get us to take us to the hotel".

So some more details its a j ticket man-sin-mel-akl-dxb-man and I've upgraded to f with miles, does that change any of the advice given so far?

Many thanks

Jo

Ah its clearer now. I initially thought there was no F option tomorrow. If that is the case, then the prophet of doom (aka Dave Noble) is technically correct in the sense that you opted to take tomorrows F flight (over a Y seat on Air NZ today). However you have been delayed thru no fault of your own and I would expect some sort of compensation (ie miles or cash) even though technically EK may not have to provide it.

I wouldn't expect much given that it's MX, they offered you a reroute with less of a delay and you chose the next day in F, and that they are picking up the hotel even though it's your choice to delay.

They might be acommodating in pushing the return date back a day for you.

But it wasnt Jo's choice to travel in Y across the Tasman...and thats what I would raise with EK. She paid to experience a class of service on a particular date, EK have failed to deliver that and while technically, they have provided an alternative, its not an equal alternative.

Jo

The flight is wide open tomorrow morning
P2 A2 J4 C4 I4 O0 Y7 E7 R7 W7 M7 B7 U7 K7 H7 Q7 L7 T0 V0 X0

Only 2 in F so far and J loads are very light. Even Y is light.

Also, if you are staying at the Parkroyal at MEL, you can easily walk to it. I'd much rather stay in town and would have had EK put me up in the city. Its a great day today weather wise, head out down to St Kilda beach and have lunch somewhere on the water. MEL isnt short of good pubs either. Plus you have the AFL on - the greatest sporting team in the world is playing today so you could take your better half to a great pub in Richmond and watch the Magpies thrash Carlton

Which hotel are you booked at? If it is an airport hotel, you can just walk to it, otherwise I would just take a cab rather than keep waiting

We are at the park royal, I wasn't aware we had a choice as I'm not used to premium travel. It's better than the holiday inn which is what she first suggested and I googled and said no as it doesn't have a pool.

Eightblack thanks for the tip, we were in st kilda yesterday and yes it was a lovely day we had lunch and dinner there and headed back to the city about 8ish. If be happy to go to the pool and relax after our very hectic few days here but the luggage hasn't arrived yet and its now 1.45!!!! Crew got theres about an hour ago as we were having lunch we saw it being delivered. I'm travelling with my 12 year old so footy and beer are off the menu.

On another note can I use the qantas first lounge tomorrow as I'm ek F?

Thanks everyone

Jo

You can use either the EK lounge or the QF lounge. You may be 'directed' to the EK lounge but I'm sure you can access the QF version. I'm not sure about whether updates / boarding calls for K flights will be made in the QF lounge though.

So went to hunt someone down, they said the luggage was still on the plane, i said its funny how the crew bags are off?? I said it was disgraceful as we made the decision to stay tonight at 9am this morning and now at 2.15 no luggage, daughter not got no swimming stuff for swim, no iPad charger, can't call/Skype anyone to let them know what's happening, her response....... I'm sure they'll have some swim stuff in lost property at the hotel you can use and you can also borrow a charger for $20, can you imagine my reaction

I'm sorry if I'm boring you all with nearly hourly updates, it's just that I'm so frustrated!

Thanks for listening guys

Jo

Jo you can use the QF lounge. I did this week and while I think the EK lounge is great the QF lounge is just so much better. You can have a full sit down breakfast and the staff are excellent they will also make announcements
