I think it is either or. So for Silver you can either clock 25K tier miles or do 25 qualifying flights, for Gold you can do either 50K tier miles or 50 flights, but for Plat, the only way to qualify would be to earn 150K tier miles in your qualifying period.

So how does this work? Each flight is 1000 tier miles isn't it? I mean dxb doh is so if I did that 50 times I'd be gold anyway...

DXB-DOH is only 500 miles on a Saver Fare, so 50 flights would only make you Silver using the miles calculation, but Gold using the flights calculation.

I must have bought a flex!

If you do that flight 50 times you deserve gold!

I thought the minimum amount of tier miles earned on a return is 1000 (If I recall correctly since joining skywards). Has that been changed?

Are they counting a return as 1 flight or 2, that is what would make it worthwhile or not.

It depends on when you joined Skywards. Pre Flex/Saver changes, a return DXB-DOH would have earned 2,000 miles, now it could be as low as 1,000.

A return flight is two. From the original link:

A qualifying flight is a flight on Emirates, or a code-share flight marketed by Emirates but operated by another airlines, between the point of origin and point of destination of an outward or return journey. (Valid from 01 April 2013)

Is it flights, or one way journeys that count?

The description says 25|50 flights but then says " between the point of origin and point of destination of an outward or return journey"

Would ( for example ) CAI-LCA via DXB be 1 flight or 2?

My understanding is its based on sectors of individual flight numbers so CAI-LCA is 2 flights but DXB-CMB-MEL would be considered one.

That would make sense and what I would have expected, but then it then went on to describe it in same way as for earning miles as a "per journey"
