Y was overbooked, J was completely full and there were just 2 seats available in F. So, guessing that 2 pax received a J-F and 2 received a Y-J upgrade including me. Apparently, there were 19 Golds travelling in Y. Given my mediocre tier and skyward miles balance, I have to assume that they used the alphabetical system for upgrades and having a surname starting with 'D' worked to my advantage

Upgrade location: Check-in desk, although as others have pointed out I noticed it about 6hrs before check-in opened when my seat selection on MMB showed "no seat selected"

Date of travel: Feb 2013
Tier status: Gold
Number of pax on the same PNR: Single
Skywards DOJ (approx): Jan 2011

Good start to my mileage run, here's hoping that my onward flight gets upgraded as well as it is overbooked as well.

As post above it. Got off my arriving flight, went straight to the gate of this flight as it was boarding and got upgraded at the gate. Now in the lounge waiting for my flight back to DXB in a ticketed F. Not bad really. Flight was full!

This is very interesting stuff, no doubt about it.
But does everyone really want their personal details being sifted through by who knows who?
Surely, if I had a friend at Emirates I could get all your personal details based on the information in the post. And there are lots of people on this board who have friends at Emirates.
So I would suggest posters might think about that. I certainly wouldn't post my details on this forum, but the mods know exactly who I am anyway.
Food for thought!
