Thank you. Could you share if your experience with the op-up was contrary to what is posted on this thread. Would be good to know if EK changed their policy on op-ups with kids.

No worries. He is under 16 so I guess thats a yes. But from 12 they fly on adult tix anyway so not sure if they would hunt down to the PNR information for the DOB. I am sure there are more important things to do at dispatch.

Well, it proves an exception to the rule.

They may have systems for that and it may not be a manual process. Like, its not a manual process when they have to pick out Golds for op-ups.

Well its easy to see from a passenger manifest who has Status but I've never seen anything including Date of Birth but perhaps they have it somewhere.

Just a quick explanation for above posts.

Our daughter, son in law and son were flying out to join us on holiday and were delighted to be upgraded on the Dubai to Kuala Lumpur flight.

We were flying home together, the three of them were in Y and hubby and I were in J.

When we boarded in Dubai from the lounge, three grinning faces were seated in Row 6 in front of us !!!!

Two Upgrades in four flights with no status is pretty good going !!!!!

2 x Bs and a C. The conspiracy theorists will have a field day.

You may want to edit your second post. Should read Dubai to Dublin I think.

Upgrade given : J-F

Upgrade Location : Gate, Lounge

Route : BOM-DXB, JFK-DXB

Flight No: EK501, EK202

Date of Travel : 2nd week of April 2013

Tier Status : Gold at the beginning, Plat at the end

Tier Miles to Date : 37K

Number of Pax on PNR: 1

Skywards D o J: 2002

First Letter of Surname: S

This was my platinum qualifying flight, so the EK202 u/g was definitely appreciated . Great way to hit Plat! I had upgraded the EK500 leg to F already so the whole JFK to BOM leg was in F including lounge access.

Another thing I noticed was that I seemed to be the only F pax transiting DXB, the remaining 13 all went off to baggage claim. Just probably an indicator of where most of the F traffic originates from....

And no plats on 202 which was surprising, except an i/o member in 1A

I get quite a few opups and dint bother reporting them, but this was a bizarre one. The first flight went tech, the later afternoon flight was running late, I was in Y. They were transferring as many Y pax as possible to the non-tech flight (J and F full on the latter) bit I declined the switch as I'd already missed my connection by hours and I didn't want to swap an exit row seat for a middle one.

By the time the delayed flight started boarding, for which I was near the front of the queue, the dispatcher appeared at the lounge boarding door to report that there were now only two passengers left in Y on this A380 flight so we were stuck into J.

That was, as they say, a result! The delay was less welcome.
