Had a family member recently fly BUD-DXB-BNE. EK112, EK434, 11 hour connection in Dubai. They weren't eligible for Dubai Connect because the fare purchased was $1060 USD, under the $1200 USD rules.

There is currently EK112 then EK430 outbound with a transit time of 3 hours 15 minutes and a couple of return combinations which are well below the 8 hour limit which mean they wouldn't qualify anyway surely?

I have read elsewhere that you need to spend $1000 or more on a leg to qualify, is this correct?

Not sure how up to date this is - but sheds some light on minimum fare requirements and exceptions.

Dubai Connect (STPC) Qualifications

A passenger must meet the following criteria to qualify for Dubai Connect (STPC):

  1. The passenger must have booked the inbound flight to and outbound flight from DXB in one PNR and it must be on one ticket. (Refer Example 1)
  2. The best available connection must be the one with the shortest transit time in DXB, taking into consideration all flights from the board point (Origin) and arrival point (destination) on the specified date of departure, in the RBD required for the POS. The availability is qualified at the time of booking the flights.(Refer Example 2)
  3. The transit time in Dubai for:
    • Economy Class: must be more than or equal to 8 hours and less than or equal to 24 hours
    • First and Business Class: must be more than or equal to 6 hours and less than or equal to 24 hours. (Refer Example 3)
  4. Both inbound and outbound flights to and from DXB must be Emirates flight marketed by EK, Emirates flight marketed by QF, Qantas flight marketed by QF or Qantas flight marketed by EK. Codeshare flights EK5000 and QF8000 series are eligible for Dubai Connect/STPC; all other Codeshare flights are not eligible. (Refer Example 4)
  5. The itinerary must be ticketed. The ticket must be issued on an Emirates (176) document, Qantas (081) document or STA (000) document. (Refer Example 5)
  6. The itinerary must be a single booking and ticketed on one ticket. For itineraries spanning more than one ticket qualification is dependent on conjunction tickets. (Refer Example 6)
  7. The ticket must meet the Minimum fare* as follows:
Departure from Ticket Fare in USD Ticket Fare in USD

Transiting DXB once (One-way Fare)Transiting DXB twice (Return Fare)

Europe, Far East & Australasia (excluding NZ, AU) 650 1200

Americas, Gulf, Middle East, Iran, West Asia & Indian Ocean 650 1000

New Zealand, Australia No minimum limit No minimum limit

East Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania & Uganda )650 900

Rest of Africa650 950

Note :
* Fare mentioned above is the fare value in the TST (ticket mask) plus the YQ total. Passenger qualification for Dubai Connect/STPC is based on the total of these two, Fare Value and YQ, on the ticket. The NUC is not considered in the fare calculation; the base fare is calculated by rate of exchange to USD amount at the time of ticketing.
Exceptions to Best Available Connection (Rule 1)
Any outbound flight within 3 hours before / after the Best Available Connection is also deemed as Best Available Connection (Refer Example 7)

Exceptions to Fare Retention (Rule 2)
All passengers travelling to / from the below mentioned destinations that have a transit time greater than 8 hours in Dubai are entitled to Dubai Connect (STPC) irrespective of the fare and point of sale. The offer validity is based on date of stay in Dubai.

The general rule is that this exception applies for all new destinations during the first 3 months of operation unless otherwise agreed.

Hello, I am due to take fly KBL to LGW via DBX on EK641 and EK011 - in economy. This gets into DBX at 1845 and departs at 0245 - so exactly 8 hours. Not only is this layover therefore not over 8 hours but there is a KBL-DBX-LHR flight with a 7 hour 45 minute layover. Even if dead-on 8 hours was acceptable to qualify for a hfree hotel am I right in assuming that EK count LGW and LHR as the same destination and therefore I wouldn't be elegiable because of the LHR option?

If so, any suggestions as to what I should do in Dubai/DBX 1845-0245? I do have a priority pass.

There is also the price of the ticket that comes into play in Y. I really doubt you'll get Dubai Connect in this case.

As for Dubai, there's long enough to leave the airport and have a meal / drinks. Loads of places within 10 minutes of the airport.

Rest of Africa $650 $950

I flew ACC-DXB-IAD round trip in September 2019. ACC and IAD both have one flight a day from DXB, and the schedule necessitates a 20+ hour layover in Dubai each way. I paid a total of $939.81 all in for the ticket, and I qualified for Dubai Connect.

The fare broken down was $192.00 for the flight and $747.81 for the taxes and fees.

When we looked, there wasn't any other option.

Things have changed somewhat in the last year...

Does the Dubai Connect option also work for staying in the airport to get a Room at the Dubai Internatonal Airport Hotel?

No. Dubai Connect is Le Meridien in F, J or higher status (Plat and Gold), and other hotels for Y and lower status. All hotels are landside.

What happens if when you book the flight there are no <10 hr connections but then they add one before your departure date?
I would think this would occur more often as they add more flights.

DC rules state eligibility based on shortest available connection at time of booking

I was about to book two return tickets VCE/AKL in J in February 2022 but while VCE/DXB leaves at 15.25 as usual the DXB/AKL now leaves earlier at 08.05 making a transit time of 7h 50 minutes. Apparently it doesn't qualify for Dubai Connect. I didn't complete the booking because with the chaffeur/drive not available at the moment and the prospect of spending the whole night in the lounge, travelling with Emirates seems quite unappealing.
