Hi Everyone. This is my first time actually posting on here lol.
Please I need some info on how Emirates Dubai Connect works. I'll be flying to ABV-DXB (Economy) next week, have a 22 hour layover before my DXB-IAD flight. I've been told that I qualify for Dubai Connect. I'm more concerned about the visa requirements for Dubai. Do I need to make any visa arrangements myself or would Emirates sort that out for me on arrival? |
Make sure you book it via Manage My Booking immediately, as you can't do it within 48hrs of departure anymore. You get vouchers at check-in. If you need a visa then EK will arrange it on arrival, in the immigration hall you probably have to go to the far right for an Iris scan and then to the bank counter to get a stamp for the visa fee. You don't pay or have to arrange anything

The question is - will this DC invitation hold water when confronted with check-in agent armed with terms-and-conditions? How probable is that I'll in fact receive this voucher? |

Thought I'd share my experience with Dubai Connect.
A few months ago was flying Cairo-Dubai-Beijing in J. EK has 3 daily arrivals from CAI into DXB (0025, 0710, 1735) and 2 PEK departures (0300 and 1100). As you can work out, there are several 2-3 hour connections possible between Cairo and Beijing. I had booked myself on the flight from Cairo arriving at 1735, with the Beijing flight leaving at 3 am the next day-around 8 hours layover in Dubai. I was pleasantly surprised to see the Dubai Connect feature on MYB show up. Was it because the shorter connection pairs were fully booked? Not sure. At check-in in Cairo, was given 3 vouchers (the hotel voucher, the voucher for DXB immigration, and a car voucher) but wasn't sure of what the process was. In DXB I was given a car for the quick 3-minute drive to Le Meridien. Check in was swift with attentive service. Can't remember much about the room but it seemed perfectly fine. I did make use of the swimming pool + health club (sauna and steam) which was great fun. Perhaps not the snazziest Dubai has to offer, but more than adequate. I did notice that Le Meridien's public areas had been extensively renovated. Overall the place seemed more "futuristic" and "hip" with a lot of funky colors and installations around the place. Didn't try the restaurants. Should mention at this point that I live in Dubai, and decided to give the Dubai Connect a go for the sake of novelty, and also because who knows when an opportunity like this would come up. I didn't make full use of the hotel/dining options because I ended up going home in Dubai anyway. Overall the Dubai Connect feature worked like a charm-by signing up through MYB, my details were migrated into the hotel/car booking systems and I didn't have to do a thing. With 3 (soon to be 4) daily departures out of CAI, it'll probably be much harder to get Dubai Connect. I wonder what citypair combinations across the EK network would qualify? At least one leg needs to be sub-daily or with very odd timings to work. I think almost all the conventional east-west and north-south city pairs have several short connection times available, thanks to EK's 3-4 daily departure and arrival banks. So what qualifies? Peshawar to Toronto? Seattle to Lagos? Larnaca to Houston? |
I booked a Ticket for my wife and my Mother in Law YYZ / DXB /BOM in Y. The stopover in DXB is about 16 hours. There are earlier departures to BOM from DXB.
They did not Qualify for a Dubai Connect , Hotel and Car Transfer vouchers. I used an OTA to book these tickets. I booked the same flights for myself but used a different OTA. I qualified for the Dubai Connect vouchers. I phoned Emirates and was told they did not qualify . So I will just buy them a Hotel Room. Our fares are same. (C1201) round trip. Return journey have a stopover for 2 days. Th Emirates rep told me their fare did not qualify. |

In short, which arrival flight into Dubai you choose doesn't matter. Dubai Connect eligibility is based on the first available departure after arrival. |

I'm not sure either, but I believe you qualified for Dubai Connect because you took the first flight to Beijing after you arrived in Dubai. While you could have left Cairo on one of the other flights and had a shorter layover, the flight you actually did take out of Cairo did not have an option for a short layover. It appears that Emirates bases DC eligibility based on the timing of the first available departure flight after you arrive in Dubai.

No, that is incorrect. The DC Terms specifically state that if an earlier departure had resulted in a shorter layover this disqualifies from DC. Whether EK's systems correctly assert those rules is different, however

In short, which arrival flight into Dubai you choose doesn't matter. Dubai Connect eligibility is based on the first available departure after arrival. What I did was fly in on EK928 which arrives at 1735 then connected to EK306 at 0355. Another potential connection would have been EK926 (arrives in DXB 0710) connecting to EK 308 (1100 departure) Dubai Connect T&Cs state that you have to fly on the best *available* connection. So perhaps all the other 3-4 hour transit combinations were unavailable/fully booked. To be honest I don't remember. I understand the point you're making- but not sure it works that way. It would be a loophole that they must have closed long ago. An example: EK has multiple flights between Delhi and Dubai. It's the middle-of-the-night EK 512/513 that's timed to connect with many US+Euro connections that leave between 8-10 am from Dubai (particularly those that are served just 1x daily). What's to stop people from simply booking an afternoon/evening departure from Delhi, necessitating an overnight layover? |

It just seems that sometimes you might get DC when it doesn't meet the terms, or you don't get it when it seems you should. I think the fare class or price paid can also affect DC eligibility.
