Yes, I think you are correct. Im just wondering how they will sort out combining these 2 ff programs, as Skywards do not offer one-way saver rewards but qantas do offer one-way rewards for half the miles of a return reward.
It is advertised on the Skywards site, so you are right it must be able to be booked through that site, but how?

They aren't really combining the 2 ff programs, but are entering into what I guess would be called a strategic alliance involving codesharing, earning/burning on both airlines and reciprocal benefits. I am assuming that you will book QF awards through Skywards, in the same way you do at the moment for any Skywards partner airline. Although who knows, they may come up with an IT solution that allows them to booked online in the way awards on EasyJet can.

I will be sampling the codeshare next weekend - on an EK ticket but QF SYD-DXB and EK DXB-LON. Looking forward to a close comparison of both F products. (I was happy with QF F last year on the A 380 and thoroughly enjoyed my EK trip LHR-SYD 10 days ago

A little off topic, but since this is big news I'll post it here.

Historic alliance begins.

UAE and Australia inks cooperation agreement

In line with its strategic objective, the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Infrastructure and Transport of the Commonwealth of Australia on the 1st of April 2013.

The signing of this important MoU will facilitate the rapid expansion of civil aviation operations between the two countries. This will also result in enhancement of trade, tourism as well as cultural exchange between the two countries.

Not sure but I suppose it is as redundant as this, why not just use the same counter as all other codeshare flights. It is manned by EK crew anyway
