Also, why does the retrofitting take so long? With the current figures of approximately 150 aircraft still to go and an average time of 37,5 days per aircraft which makes them roll out 20 updated cabins per year. It will take them another 8 years to complete the retrofit. With them upgrading newer aircraft before older ones it seems like these older aircraft would have been taken out of the fleet already anyway right? Using the sheet as a source. Thanks for sharing btw. The 77Ws are being retrofitted much faster (I think there’s a small error in the average calculation that’s skewing that number, if I’m reading the formula right) than the 388s, so while they focus on 77Ws the rate will pick up, and as that winds down, the rate will slow down, all things being constant. Main constraints previously indicated are parts (supply chains are still clogged up) and shortage of staff, and I believe that’s more severe for the 388s. But have also read that they’d like to get rid of the old J seat ASAP, although that sounds convenient. Haven’t seen anyone say it definitively, but yes, it would appear that retrofitting the newer airframes they expect to keep longer in the hope that Boeing gets its act together is the plan, at least for the 77Ws. |
Hi all,
Just saw the update below - the refitted 777 service from Hong Kong will start 6 days AFTER my flight! Typical! :) https://www.emirates.com/media-centr...content=global |

You may get lucky. Most of what is in that announcement has a buffer of at least a week in case retrofits take longer than expected.

A6-EDF flew for the first time in over a year this morning on the EK2646 test flight, so seems like it’s re-entry into service is imminent.
|
At the same time, the next A380 was equipped with PE, A6-EON. The next one is likely to be A6-EOD. It looks as if the older ULR A380s will be retrofitted first.
|
A6-EDF is set to return to service this evening on the EK925/926 Cairo service
|
Is there any indication when Emirates could pull the last 6 A380’s out of storage at DWC or are those gone for good? Surely the longer they sit idle in DWC, the more work they’ll need doing before they come back into service you’d have thought…

A6-EBQ hasn’t flown since March 25th. Since it’s a 36NER frame (GECAS owned), I wonder if it’s undergoing end of lease maintenance?

Thanks murtaza12 for your updates. Looks like the EP* planes are getting retrofitted even without the crew rest. EPA, EPI, EPU. My parents are flying to India on Thanksgiving (TRV, mom is coming from MAA on EK547, my dad from DEL on EK515). By November or December all of these planes will have PEY. What happens to the EN* planes remain to be seen. But the EC* planes definitely need an overhaul
Looks like a slow end of the 3-class non-CRC EP* planes on most India routes. Since its not CCU, they’ll probably be stuck with the older 777-300ER. I did like the EN* planes. But never say never? Premium Economy may come to MAA, TRV, BOM, BLR, etc based on the rate (or an A350) |

Just seen this picture on Twitter of another Emirates A380 in the process of being scrapped at DWC. No idea as to which one it was, or how long ago the picture was taken, but a sad sight indeed. Could either be EDC, EDD or EDE?

The sheet was removed due to a DMCA takedown. Unlikely that it will be restored this time.
It's been a good 7 years :) |
And it looks like murtaza’s account is gone. What a shame. Seemed well-informed and the sheet was very useful.
