No major update, just a cabin refresh with new seat covers and more Y seats

Is this not the upgrade to ‘real flat’ seats and ‘minibar’?
Certainly not ‘major’, but possibly more than a ‘refresh’ in J.

Right, but the question was about Y specifically.

Seat covers are different, feels like an upgrade for sure. Lots of small improvements

A6-EPE is now in EXPO 2020 livery

Despite without mention from theeksource.com, A6-EBX is now confirmed to be in maintenance. I wonder if this will be retired or not. Although EK last year previously retired older 2 class 77W and replaced with 3 class 77W with new F. Plus, EK should have not retired next 777 this year until the new 777X touches down as early next year.

EBX is probably just in for regular maintenance.

So that means the rest of the older 77W's will be out until the 777X arrived? It looks correct to me. Also, maintenance for EBX should take 2 weeks and the result of the aircraft will be out next week.

2 77W A6-EBB/EPC is now out of storage and now it's back in service

WilliamSudarpo Feb 9, 2019 9:53 pm

Update: Nordwind Airlines of Russia is getting off 3 77W from Emirates which is A6-EBX, EBZ and ECB to be delivered from 2019/2020.

WilliamSudarpo Feb 9, 2019 9:57 pm

By summer 2019, all 77W in 2 class with ICE is all gone. Reduced to 20 77W as the result.

I am correct, Nordwind Airlines is adding this along with EBZ and ECB to it's fleet this year with EBF and EBH goes out by year end, replaced by 2 class A380 and more.

BOEING777EK Feb 10, 2019 4:24 am

According to Planespotters.net A6-EBX is scheduled to leave the fleet for Azur Air.

Do you have a source for this?

So EBX is withdrawn from active service then?

Hasn't flown since 21st Jan.

The source under says EBX is actually leaving for Azur Air next April and in May or June another one is coming. That means all 2 Class 77W with ICE is gone.

Yes along with EBZ which will also come in June.

WilliamSudarpo Feb 14, 2019 4:54 pm

Are anyone knows about the A330neo and A350 orders?

BOEING777EK Mar 5, 2019 9:55 am

A6-EBX

This afternoon A6-EBX completed a few circuits around Dubai as EK2551.

WilliamSudarpo Mar 19, 2019 8:41 am

And A6-EBF is now preparing for Royal Flight.

You mean the ones flown by pilots Orville and Wilbur?

Oh dear, that's just not Wright!

First 77W in Royal Flight livery is an ex A6-EBF in the link below.

With the retirement of the 2-Class 777-300ER's, how long are we from the possible retirement of older 3-Class frames?

Great! That's one EBx series we won't see in CPT anymore...:D

EK are retiring only the older 2-class frames…..they still have 16 frames in the fleet….some are just 4 years old.

Depends on the amount of cycles, and how much life is left in them, and also on how long the lease is for the 3-class frames.
11 out of the remaining 15 A6-EBx aircraft are leased from GECAS.

Seeing as how EK is expecting deliveries of 777-9s next year, and A330-900neos to start in 2021, they might start retiring the older 3-class 77Ws around the same time.

Actually, 10 of the remaining 15 A6-EBx are leased from GECAS. A6-ECB is leased from Aercap and not GECAS. This plane will be retired in the end of May before flying with Royal Flight this summer. All 2 class airframes will only be the one made from 2010 and onwards.

DYKWIA May 4, 2019 5:35 am

How many aircraft do Emirates own, or are they all leased?

ASA_1 May 5, 2019 5:23 pm

Is there a way to know ahead of time whether I'll have the new or old 777 business class? Flying DXB-SEA in a few weeks.

No. But what do you mean by new? The newest (still 2-3-2)? Assume old and you won't be disappointed

right, but the newer version has a slightly upgraded seat and upgraded IFE. Wasn’t sure if I could look up the tail number for my plane in the app or online and figure out whether it had the newer product.

I have conflicting information to that, the large majority should be leased.

Not in advance, planes are rotated pretty much at random beyond broader trends (e.g. old planes.to CPT)

SEA is tricky as it usually gets the older seat with some new ones sprinkled in. The last few weeks have consistently been the new(ish) lie flat seat so there is more hope than I would have had a couple months back but there's always the chance you'll get the old seat as it's easy to make a aircraft swap. Earliest you will know is when the aircraft leaves DXB on the day of travel. So as the previous poster said, expect the old and hope for the new.

55 A380s and 50 B777s. However since you mentioned the large majority should be leased, I believe I'm still missing quite a few.

Around 3 years ago, they only had 5 planes on the books. The rest was leased but I don't know the developments since, don't see why the model would have changed.

WilliamSudarpo May 8, 2019 2:54 am

A6-ECB have not flown for the last few days ago. So I think ECB is come to an end of era. All the 2 class planes with no touchscreen and older screens has been withdrawn.

Plus, A6-EPL is the one that have EXPO 2020 earlier this year before the last, not EPG. The link below is false.

ft101 May 10, 2019 1:49 am

The link also shows leased/owned and the figure of 55 A380s owned supports the figures in post 476. Same source perhaps?

I would say that's A6-EPD rather than EPG in the photo. The EK source also showed A6-EPD for EK25 DXB-GLA on April 8th.
A6-EPG probably is still in standard livery.

Our sharp eyed mod has noticed the lack of any mention of the B787 order in the above...

Confirmation that EK won't be taking up their options (I don't believe it was ever a firm order?).
