The policy is clear. You eat when you are told to eat. You always have a choice - "eat" or "don't eat".

But before that, how many miles can we expect for the flight not having dine on demand even though this was stated on the website?

I flew fairly recently on BKK-DXB (EK 375) the morning 09:55 departure. I was really exhausted (and having a cold) and fell asleep almost directly after takeoff. After about 3 or 4 hours, I woke up and was starving. I asked in the galley if they had any sandwiches or similar, and the crew offered to set up lunch for me with what they had left from the service. I got one tray with the starter and main courses together and desert which they offered later.
I'd never asked for this before, and not since, but I really appreciated the extra service I was given on that flight.

Hi Mate,
This is strange
I think we should ask the mod (Mr 8B) to send an email to his contacts in EK & get a proper Airline Policy answer on this matter.
The meal service either should be on demand or it should not be on demand in J. It can not be upto the FA's to decide on this. I think this is not fair so the premium pax's have a right to know what exactly is the EK policy on this service.
I hope you agree with this on me??? Hows the English weather??
Paging the MOD pls??

Fly J with SU every day almost.
Even on a 2 hrs domestic flight they offer an on demand dining in J.
EK J Service needs help for sure.
Cheers

That would be entirely counter-productive. Asking for a reiteration of policy will simply ensure that those isolated crew who are willing to assist the passengers needs will no longer do so.
The policy is clear. You eat when you are told to eat. You always have a choice - "eat" or "don't eat.. ^

This should not be the way you put it!!!!!!!!!

When the new J class service was being trailled.... Dine on Demand was trailled in Business Class... And proved to be very difficult to handle. The only service that is offered as Dine on Demand is the Light Bites service on ULR flights. All others are eat now or dont. It is entirely upto the the crew serving you on that day, if they wish to offer you Dine on Demand. But the official answer from Emirates is Business Class is not Dine on Demand. I have it written in Black and White on the information we were given when the new service rollled out.

It is also a question of keeping the cabin silent. On overnight flights, most of the J cabin would want to sleep, and one person eating would disturb everyone around them. So it's best to have everyone finish their meal and let them sleep.
In F it is different because with Suites there is little disruption to other pax.
I don't think it's just a question of whether it can be offered, but whether it should be, and the cost implications of doing so.

I believe QR/EY offer dine on demand in J on selected routes. EK have tried to offer this service but with the current galley set up and cabin load, I believe the other carriers do not have 42 or 76 configured cabins, the logistics just didn't work.

Emirates problem as they continue to grow is that the experience level of their cabin crew continues to be diluted. This is not to say that the crew are not talented or enthusiastic (many of them are indeed exceptional in these areas), but rather that the high rate of growth and turnover means that the average experience continues to go down rather than up. Which means that it becomes very difficult to make small changes since those executing them lack the contextual awareness.
Emirates realises this problem and the new meal services are designed with intent of being common sense and modular services. However, the tradeoff is that the end product will be consistent cookie cutter services rather than customised service for each passenger.

I don't think there's any need for clarification. The policy is on demand is NOT a published feature of the business class product. If operational conditions and exigencies permit, Emirates crew will do all they can ---as they do 90% of the time in J in my experience --- to make adjustments in the service pattern to maximize pax satisfaction with the onboard experience. That's all there is to it
Example
I like to adjust my meal patterns on my GRU-PEK runs so I land rested fed and watered and have requested changes in meal service times for myself. I've been told than on demand not poss with the steak, but with pasta no problem.....
