If not, then you chose to self insure then you can write to Emirates detailing the reasonable necessary expenses incurred and you will likely get reimbursed
Do you seriously expect reimbursement claims to be processed in 2 days?
It is not Emirates's fault that you chose to stay in Mumbai ; Emirates would send your missing luggage on to Mumbai once found if informed of travel plans; if you fail to secure an account for choosing not to go to meetings then that is not Emirates's fault

My baggage was delayed at layover in DXB in September. At my final destination (which is not my home), my secretary had to harrass EK to have an update. The following day, the baggage landed but they were unable to tell the delivery time as "they don't know how the driver will decide his delivery route". So I had it delivered at the hotel.
Bottom line : two working days without proper suit and tie (but at the same time, a good trivia to break the ice with local employees). EK offered 60EUR compensation as I was flying J. Luckily, I had only internal meetings, so I bought a lousy shirt, underwear and a pair of socks for just 35EUR, but clearly, 60EUR is not enough if I had a formal meeting, not to mention the time lost to buy those un-needed things ...
Customer service clearly doesn't realize the impact of the delayed baggage when you are on a business trip with a tight schedule.

Make sure that anything that you need for 1st day or 2 is in your hand luggage so that this can be avoided plus
If you have travel insurance, then this can be quite decent at meeting these costs - mine will pay up $700 for required purchases.

I always have something (a non crushable dress) in hand luggage after my bag didn't arrive in Sri Lanka on my last trip. Worst thing was bag arrived in Colombo next day so I didn't go and buy anything even though I had insurance but it took another day to get to me (a day I need work clothes). Travel agent got me some courtesy miles.
