I always have something (a non crushable dress) in hand luggage after my bag didn't arrive in Sri Lanka on my last trip. Worst thing was bag arrived in Colombo next day so I didn't go and buy anything even though I had insurance but it took another day to get to me (a day I need work clothes). Travel agent got me some courtesy miles.
