Not really 1. check out the Boeing - Paine Airport Twitter photos. You'll see an AC and QF aircraft with tail-only paint https://twitter.com/mattcawby?lang=en 2. I posted this video upthread back in August. You can see how the tail on this LY aircraft is painted ahead of assembly. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/28723994-post136.html |

That was exactly my point, that for some reason the tail is painted separately :)

Update on 787 Wi-Fi
With Viasat 2 going live this month, have there been any public comments on when the LY 787s will provide transatlantic connectivity?

Not sure whether this has been published here or not, but just in case it hasn't, here is the delivery schedule for the next Dreamliners:
789 - February 2018 789 - March 2018 789- June 2018 789 - August 2018 789 - October 2018 789 - January 2019 789 - June 2019 788 -July 2019 788 - September 2019 788 - December 2019 788 - March 2002 788 -May 2020 788 - August 2020 788 - November 2020 In addition, the company announced the 18/1/18 that they were to lease an additional 789 to be delivered 3 of 2019. |
I really don't understand why they are getting both the 788 and 789. Assuming travel demand will just grow it seems shortsighted.

Still, after discounts (~50%) the diff in cost (20M) seems very small compared to the benefit of full commonality and potential growth.

Some fleet information from Planespotters.net
https://www.planespotters.net/airlin...srael-Airlines https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...cc00099141.png If you click the aircraft type e.g. Boeing 787, it will display more detail https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...ddacdad670.png Then if you click the number "2" on the line for the Boeing 787-9, this will open https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...20a16679d4.png Also, on the Fleet Matrix page, if you scroll down, there is a section with .... https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...e84f3f6519.png And at the bottom of the list for the 789, you'll see this https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...5bce3096bd.png |
It's very nice that LY now has true Premium Economy on the 787 but they can't seem to price it properly. Just compared r/t TLV-NYC and LY Y+ came out to more expensive than C on the route on a variety of European carriers including AZ, SN, LO, BA, LH, and OS. Yes it's direct, but I'd rather save the $100 and fly lie-flat on BA.

$2300 in LY Y+; $2200 in BA CW. Newark in both cases
|
Not at all surprising.
|
By means of comparison, LO's brand new Y+ is more than $1K less than LY for the same routing. AZ is a bit more but considers the TLV-FCO-TLV legs to be in Biz (obviously same seat so the only real benefit there is check-in/security/lounge/miles, but still)
|
And in the meantime 4X-EDC has landed in TLV and from March 3 it will operate the HKG rotation.
