According to ynet (Hebrew), the damage to the wing of 4X-EDH was limited to the exterior cover of the wing. Replacement parts are expected to be received from Boeing in a week or two and the aircraft is expected to be returned to service within a month.

Last night's LY26 EWR-TLV diverted to Halifax Canada (YHZ) following a smell of smoke in the cabin.

Incident: El Al B772 near Halifax on Jan 9th 2020, smell of smoke from aft galley

An El Al Boeing 777-200, registration 4X-ECC performing flight LY-26 from Newark,NJ (USA) to Tel Aviv (Israel), was enroute at FL260 about 260nm southsoutheast of Halifax,NS (Canada) when the crew decided to divert to Halifax due to the smell of smoke from the aft galley. The aircraft landed safely on Halifax's runway 05 about 50 minutes later.
The airline reported the aircraft needed to land in Halifax due to the smell of smoke from the kitchen area in the rear of the aircraft.

I wonder if pax who didn't want to wait out shabbat were offered reroute options, if any were still available that late (and not knowing what time they're now expected in tlv)
Also wondering how they'll cater the onward flight from YHZ. How much kosher food could te local caterers keep on hand?

LY96 Diversion
LY96 PEK-TLV last night was first delayed for seven hours on the ground in Beijing (was scheduled to depart originally at 22:00 local time and didn't leave until 4:50 in the morning), then diverted to LCA, eventually continuing to TLV arriving at 10:17 this morning, 8 hours late...
Aircraft was a brand spanking new 788.
