New route?

Following up on everyone's concern about this forums inactivity, I thought that maybe we can copy some successful threads from other forums, if they can potentially liven up the forum.

Therefore I suggest a thread I saw in a different forum.

What two destinations would you like to see ELAL flying to?

MIA
Makes zero sense to me that there is no service to this significant US gateway which also happens to have an enormous Jewish community (all over South Florida) and a tremendous number of Israelis as well.

MAN - Not that I would gain anything from it but I strongly believe there is a case for them to reinstate the route.

LCA - Always chose LY on my trips there.

My own take;

BSL
YUL

I have to agree about MIA, though.

LY won't start MIA until FAA ranks Israel as cat. I again, which will not happen soon. But shouldn't they start ORD first due to the AA codeshare?

Or maybe if they start MIA they could fly TLV-MIA 1-2 weekly and TLV-MIA-MCO-TLV (or TLV-MCO-MIA-TLV) 1 weekly (so total 2-3 weekly).

BOS (assuming Israel would become cat I) or SFO (both are good destinations for lots of Israeli travel, and both are big airports with lots of connections).

and...

TPE (just because I want a direct flight there, not because it would make sense from LY's point).

Considering the fact that LY aircrafts wait a long time in JFK/EWR/YYZ before their return to TLV, there may be TLV-JFK/YYZ-MIA/SFO or TLV-JFK/EWR-BOS/ORD flights.

I would also like to see LY flying B757s to the US as TLV-DUB/Shannon-US for US immigrations in Ireland (hopefully with newer business class seats).

I would also like them to start PVG (maybe as TLV-PEK-PVG).

Am I right to understand that the fact that they are not rated cat. I, restricts them from operating new routes?

I think BSL could be consider. I think those routes will done extremely performance very well. I think LY will have 3 or 4x weekly frequencies. I think it will perfect opportunity for me. There is few 10,000 Jewish populations who lived in BSL areas.

SYD and SIN both have a similar O&D problem. In addition, anywhere SE involves a big detour. Hence I don't think LY could currently handle SYD anyway.

MIA/ORD have got to be on the tabs next. But the FAA rating doesn't help.

Jet2 do seem to be doing pretty well there. It's proximity to LON must be a factor for LY's decision, but it would still shave off 3 hours each way for any MAN pax.

Can LY make it work to LCA against two CY and one IZ (IIRC) flights?

BSL's not going to happen with ZRH and GVA already strongly served. And YUL is too close to YYZ and NYC. Only possibility is as an add-on like gordo6 suggests.

BOS is to close to NYC. I don't think SFO could work for a similar reason. The alternative connection options are too plentiful from SFO.

I know you mean as a continuation from TLV, but do LY have 5th freedom rights in the US of A?

That's a very interesting idea. However, it would be a lot less popular on the return, unless Israel set up pre-clearance in DUB/SNN as well (which I don't see happening).

I could see PVG. It is currently really difficult to get there easily, and the LY/CA (?) option isn't particularly palatable. With good partnership in PVG, they could really give it the potential to work.

One interesting possibility I can thinkof is MEX. Tat would really open up Latin America, the Carribean and various Mexican tourist destinations. But again, LY would need a strong partner there.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

Assuming you are referring to Basel, it dosen't make much sense, as Zurich is less than a hour's drive away.
