Hainan Airlines closes Guangzhou-TLV route

https://www.ynet.co.il/articles/0,73...443666,00.html

Closing Guangzhou-TLV route as of Feb 20. BUT they are opening a new route to Shenzhen on Feb 22.
However it seems that China Southern may start flying on the route from Guangzhou instead.
There was however a drop in Chinese tourists coming to Israel in 2018 (down by 8%) which is part of the cause of cancelling the Guangzhou line on Hainan.

Israeli authorities to offer charge exemptions at Timna, Haifa:

https://centreforaviation.com/news/m...airport-870160

They've been talking about extending Haifa's runway to 1500-1600 meters for over 10 years. What is the latest on that? It's 1318m now. Adding less than 200 meters should not be difficult, even if they have to move a road. Who knows if they will ever turn that northern airbase into a second major international airport? Until that happens, it would be nice to have a Haifa Airport that could relieve some of the pressure from TLV.

Maybe they can get some ATR 72 flights out of Haifa now? Eilat, Larnaca, maybe even Paphos, Antalya and Rhodes in summer?

Indeed.
Truth is, it's a shame that nobody is really operating the Q400 in that region, well besides Olympic.
The Q would be better suited for those routes to Greek Islands and secondary Turkey.

Oh well.

Tus Airways used to fly these routes for a short while. I wish they'd return.

For Cyprus, where you are talking less than 200 nautical miles from Haifa, the extra speed of the Q-400 would have little benefit. For Antalya and Rhodes, it would help a little. I don't think Haifa's runway is long enough to use them all the way to Athens, without a weight restriction. The problem at Haifa is the large offset on landing, so that while the runway is 1318 meters long, when planes land from the southwest, the landing distance is only 1,190 m.

El Al considering Orlando flights

https://en.globes.co.il/en/article-e...hts-1001269974

As a seasonal service this would make a lot of sense, but it would be almost entirely leisure travelers so not sure how you fill up all the premium seats with just family travelers.

I concur, but then again wouldn't they be better off funnelling those seasonal PAX through MIA & opening (or up-gauging an existing destination) a new station, like ORD for example?
Maybe even DFW / HOU. There's a lot of Hi-Tech & Medical going on down there as well as a healthy base of evangelicals and other special interest groups to lean on to fill the back.

Just a thought.

El Al may consider MCO-TLV flights

El Al may considering MCO-TLV, but there is no specific date to be set. Don't you remember LY has flies TLV-MCO for over 2 decades ago. Hopefully they will have reconsider MCO-TLV in a distant future.

Are you sure about these schedules? Where is the aircraft based?
