I don't mind Applebees. Their half priced appetizers during Happy Hour are OK, as are their burgers and sandwiches and the like. I'd put it above Ruby Tuesday on my list but below Chilis. I have fond memories of going to the Tempe Applebees while in college and the Mamaroneck, NY Applebees when I first got my Driver License and fond memories for me = the place gets a check mark in my book.

The last time I was at Applebee's, several years ago, the chicken had that special bubbly chickenlike meat of a McNugget, but a flavor that was even more artificial.

LOL. Normally involving a stop at a WC after a night out drinking...around 2 am, followed by the taste of those burgers the following day...around 2 PM!!!

Look at the calorie count on their "healthy" salads!

That's insane! Even for the kids there is a "celery with sauce" with more fat grams than a snickers bar. Good god. Stick to the <500 cal menu here. I mean how can you get that much fat/cals into those items anyway?

To be fair, nobody would order the riblets and tenders for the purposes of managing their fat or caloric intake.

The counts on their "healthy" salads is more important. People do order those with some expectation of low cal, low fat, etc.

I just ate at applebees tonight and I'm surprised at the amount of salt in their salads. I had the oriental grilled chicken salad. 2060mg of sodium is outrageous for a salad.

I eat salads to avoid the salt.. and get something healthy into the system..

How do you know it was 2060 mg of sodium?

2060 mg!!?? That's unacceptable!! Many of the chain restaurants are using processed meats for their menu items (seasoned and cooked), so that they don't have to be as concerned with handling raw meat and training kitchen staff to cook/season food properly. If you look at their nutritional info chart, nearly all of their burgers, chicken, sandwiches, etc are over the top high in sodium. The steaks are more reasonable (being under 1,000 mg per serving) Sadly, a majority of chain restaurants, institutional places, hospitals, airline caterers, and especially grade school through high school kitchens are going this route as well. It's less labor, less thought, and IMO less creative. In the long run, we will all pay for it via obesity, hypertension, and other health issues. Salt/sodium acts as a preservative, which is helpful, but this is going to far and is absurd.

Its gotten so adopted.. how do you avoid it?

I'm looking into ways to improve my diet and food intake.. but everywhere you turn, its gotten to the point its saturated.

I agree, society needs to reevaluate what needs to be done to reverse the facts of obesity.. I'm not obese, but am looking at ways to improve my health..

Last time I went to order applebee's, they had taken my few vegetarian options off the menu (like the veggie patch pizza). Maybe just as well, I too looked at the nutrition guides and was shocked. It's nice they have the "weight watcher" options but couldn't they stick in one dish that doesn't have meat or fish? Makes going their with colleagues impossible.

You aren't missing anything.

Maybe I'd go so far as to say, maybe you should write a thank you to the corp offices for not making you suffer through their 'food'
