"If Lisa had won, I would have never watched that show again."
I'm amazed at people's reactions like this. It's Top Chef, not top likable person. People rarely meet who cooks their food. There was only one person who had good food for THE WHOLE MEAL. It wasn't Richard or Stephanie. Stephanie's dessert looked like something you whip up out of a box. Making desserts isn't that hard. I'm amazed that some of these guys haven't had more experience.
Richard had no focus in making his meals. Stephanie and Lisa tied course for course although it was very close in the first course. Stephanie was owned in the dessert round. I could make that dessert. Lisa had good food the whole way through. The others didn't.
The judges looked at the four courses and then the meal as a whole. Lisa won 3/5 of those. They gave it to Stephanie though because most people care more about who they like and identify with rather than other merits. I guess that's why this country is run by a dufus who got C's in college.
Lisa, sadly enough, won that challenge and is the Top Chef. Stephanie lost the challenge and gets the title. Mostly so people won't get their panties in a bunch.

Stephanie had great dishes throughout the filming and I can only think of one dish that the judges had a hard time with, the children's dish.
I thought Stephanie would win from the beginning and I was right.

I told people she would win from the start also (made a point of reminding them yesterday). They would never had picked Lisa regardless. It's much akin to how Survivor implemented a second million dollar prize for the bearded moron who decided that building a shelter on a beach at low tide was a wise idea. People like others mostly for how likable they are rather than for their actual merits.
Lisa owned those guys in the challenge last night. I have no idea how that happened with the exception that she was free to cook within the type of food she can cook. Were it the case that people actually liked her, she would have won.

I think Stephanie was the strongest all through the show. Richard was great up until the end, and if he had been proud of what he did he may have won. But Lisa did not deserve to win, even thought she did do quite well the last challenge.

OK I only got into Top Chef this year and I *loved* it. But I think the show needs to work itself out. Are you really voting on ONE MEAL ONLY, or UP TO THAT POINT? Whilst it came across in many shows as being one meal only, the decision seemed to reflect otherwise in some episodes.
This was notable in the finale where Lisa clearly cooked the best meal (based on what we saw). Yet she didn't win. She had a consistently bad season, the other chefs didn't respect her, and her atittude (oh her attitude) made you wish reality TV meant that you, the viewer, could really REALLY give her a bit of a slap!
Mind you she improved leaps and bounds when she went to Puerto Rico - seems someone slapped her for us.
I really warmed to Richard. The guy's noble, humble, and a good cook. Sorry to see that his final meal let him down, but sure he'll do well in life.
Bring on Top Chef 5!
