I usually love cucumbers but Hendrick's didn't do it for me, I love the bottle though.
Tanqueray works fine for me, especially as my usual gin drink is a Negroni and you can't taste the gin too much anyway.

A great drink, but you really need a bit of sugar syrup in there for balance and ideally some egg white for texture. It's also Triple Sec rather than Cointreau (i.e. lower ABV)

My favorite everyday gin is regular Tanqueray. Tanqueray Rangpur Lime is great in the summer, or as something to switch it up.
Tanqueray 10 is great, but I only drink it when I feel like splurging. It's not too pricey, but it's also not something I'd buy to have around all the time.
I know I come off as a Tanqueray fan boy, but I haven't had one I didn't like yet. Hendricks is on my list to try, and Bombay Sapphire is overrated in my opinion.

My colleagues are nuts about Hendricks. I certainly appreciate why they like it; it just doesn't match my budget as an everyday gin for G&Ts. For that I'm a fan of New Amsterdam. It's smooth like Bombay Sapphire but at less than half the price.

There is a small distillery in Germany in the Black Forest. They make a Gin called Monkey 47 and it is one of the best gins I know.
MONKEY 47 Schwarzwald Gin
It is sold in half liter batches and is definitely something special.

It is slowly becoming available in the USA now, but at a stupidly expensive price (which I admit to having paid once )

New Amsterdam has nice citrusy notes that work well with tonic. But it would be awful in a martini. I love Plymouth in a martini.

LeClaire, Iowa has a micro-distillery which makes a botanical gin-delicious!
Contains flower petals, citrus peels, some juniper & spices, dried cucumber & locally sourced grain.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that notices that citrus taste. I find it tastes more like an orange creme hard candy though. I honestly can't stand New Amsterdam gin, but it is inexpensive and smooth. I'll have to give it another shot with some tonic.

There definitely is an orangey character to New Amsterdam gin, as this review describes. I know some people who definitely don't like it for that reason. I don't mind it, but it is different from other gins. I usually only use gin in G&T, so I had not considered the possibilities the article mentions for using New Amsterdam gin in fruit-based cocktails.

+1 on the Monkey 47. Never heard of the stuff until a couple of weeks ago. Was introduced to it by a Level 3 Sommelier in of all place the Maldives. Splash of grapefruit juice with muddled blueberries and some ice was great in the warm weather. Was looking forward to trying it neat in the cold weather I arrived back to in N Texas but can't find it anywhere even at the high prices.

Tanqueray is all my FIL will drink and Mrs BamaVol likes to offer him a martini whenever he visits, so I have to stock it. I only drink an occasional G&T and it works fine. Just not my favorite. If I have a second bottle of gin it is Hendricks or Bombay Saphire.

+1. Additionally, I can not stand Bombay Sapphire.. something in there that tickles me the wrong way. So sad since many "better" lounges/airlines in C use bombay sapphire...
We should do a gin-awareness group to fight for at least a choice of two gins.. the difference in flavor can be huge, so well worth it..
