Definitely had my fair share of Popov's in college - also, had to love the 40 proof Colonial Club Vodka that was found in Ohio. I think it doubled as a disinfectant too.

I second this. I used to drink Absolute exclusively until a friend introduced me to Titos (distilled 6 times as opposed to 3 if I remember right). It is about half the price of Absolute and far, far better. It is a little hard to find but well worth the effort of looking for it. I'd even rate it above Grey Goose.

IMO Titios aint cheap.
There is a polish vodka at TJ's(label is in polish)that is very good.
Smirinoff is a good domestic brand.
I think using anything above "mid shelf"is a waste in most cocktails(the exception being a vodka martini)with anything that would overpower the vodka(absolute srewdriver-why bother)is nothing but showing off.

Exactly! Good stuff if I'm gonna taste it, cheapest available if I'm gonna drown it (or drown in it)

You are observant and you got the message. I love the show-offs who order a Belvedere (or Ketel One, or $$$) bloody mary with EXTRA bottled bloody mary mix. Oy!

Is the polish brand you speak of called Zubrowka? I brought a couple of bottles of it back from Warsaw a couple of weeks ago. It is good and when bought over there, very cheap.

Georgi vodka. I've never heard of it till I moved to New York, but it's $10-12 a liter, and to me, it tastes just as good as Smirnoff.

I have to say, I got an unbelievable deal on Smirnoff at the Sydney duty free - AUD$13 for a liter. I wish I could've bought $100 worth!

I've never really understood the point of vodka as whenever I have tried it it hasn't tasted of anything.
Most people I know drink it with the intention of getting mullahed as fast as possible but there's seems so many more enjoyable ways of getting legless.

For me the point is that the penalty (the next morning) is small to non-existent with Vodka as opposed to other types of alcohol. ^

Tito's is quite possibly the WORST (and only?) vodka made in Texas. It's handmade by pig farmers before they washed their hands, I'm sure...

Monopolowa, potato vodka from Poland. ^

I love vodka, but as United says, I keep the good stuff for myself. When I do brunches for friends, who aren't necessarily vodka experts anyways, I say bring out the Smirnoff for the Bloody Mary bar.

Now that SYD's arrivals corrdor is just a big duty-free shop, smart FTers will buy a bottle of whatever they like (at a big saving for whisky and other liquors) and, if appropriate, exit through the duy-free queue.

Nice find, gosha. For a cheapie vodka I'd go with Smirnoff too.

My fave "cheap" vodka vote goes to SKYY Vodka.

My fave "only for me" vodka vote is Chopin Vodka.
