Well, off to dinner!

Ganda, Spain, for the most stunning seafood dish I have ever eaten, arroz a banda at a small restaurant that I doubt I would ever be able to find again (nuts!) This meal is still reverberating in my tastebuds 11 years after I ate it.

Intercourse, PA, the annual Mennonite Auction to benefit Haitian Missions, for the doughnuts alone. They are positively transcendental.

Bo Bun at Pho Hung in Toronto (Toronto vietnamese and Pan-Asian restaurants regularly include this on their menu but it's harder to find the same flavour in Paris)

I would go back to the New Orleans Cafes in Media and/or Chads Ford, PA (Philly area) just to eat any of the Cajun dishes.

...but both locations are now closed!

However, the Gumbo Shoppe in Aston, PA is still open with similar food (in a cheaper, far less pretentious store front!)

Actually, I think the point wasn't that it was a beef bowl (I mean, who doesn't love the occasional beef bowl?), but rather that the poster would travel to China or the Philippines in order to eat at a Japanese chain restaurant.

Chicago for a Greektown Gyro (or even a steak burrito). Paris for a crepe fromage - or maybe a doner kebab sandwich. Getting hungry now.

1. Katz in lower Manhattan for pastrami sandwich and their cheesecake. Was there a few months ago, in May, hope to go back. No one who raves about the place mentions that it's comparatively difficult to get to, taking a subway, going up subway stairs, GETTING LOST on which direction to go! etc. But once you're there, at least you've worked up an appetite, the better to enjoy what can only be described as the truly sublime.

2. Captain George's Seafood Buffet in various towns, including Virginia Beach. Actually it's been years since I've been there, rather difficult to fly back just for a meal, but often I dream of going back. . . . Who knows, maybe someday. . . .

I've heard about these from friends who went to RIT--but you can't eat them sober, right?

I would, however, take any excuse to go back to either of those places.

I would go back to Berthierville, Quebec (a small diner down the road from the Villeneuve museum) to have poutine with pepper chicken and peas. Truly amazing food and amazing how poutine is elevated to main dish status!
