The pie at Di Fara's is way more then $14 - I think its $35, if I remember correctly. $5 slices... If you are ever in NY - go try. One of my top 3 places. Get there before 12 pm so you can get your pie by earlier. The line is usually out the door.
Thank you for the information, daprophecy. |
Went to Forno Rosso Pizzeria in Chicago a week ago on a Flyertalk DO. They do Neapolitan Style Pizza and it's just delicious.
http://cmk10.smugmug.com/Travel/Flye...DSCN0928-L.jpg Pizza with prosciutto and arugula. Prices were very reasonable too. |
Looks nice, but do you slice it at the table or what?
I love that style of crust, but rarely do I see it loaded with the meat and other toppings I want for a filling meal. Fine for a snack though.:) |
I was there too. And I sat next to that pizza pictured above.
Charlie was a great guy too! It was a pleasure meeting you! I had a carbonara pizza. Tomato sauce, , fresh mozzarella, pancetta, egg, cracked black pepper. I am a Chicago raised boy and was surprised at how good this one was. But then I have learned not to worry when Willie throws a Chicago DO. Its top shelf. the pie was already sliced, it just needed a little coaxing. We also shared this.... Salumi Misto Assortment of Italian meats, cheeses and Castlevetrano Olives. Now that was killer!! |

Finally got to Pizzeria Bianco in Phoenix. I don't know if it was the best pizza ever, but it was pretty close. We had the Wiseguy (wood-roasted onion, smoked mozzarella, fennel sausage - no tomato sauce) and the Margherita. I think a good test of a pizza place is their Margherita. If you can do simple well, you're off to a good start. I could have eaten a bowl of that tomato sauce. I can't wait to go back and try other varieties.
What I wasn't ready for was the flourless chocolate cake - maybe the best I've ever had, in a pool of creme Anglaise. Out of three of us, no one wanted dessert but me. I had to fight them off. Unfortunately, the waitress brought three forks. :( |
Glad to see CMK10 & Ceres enjoyed Forno Rosso!!

No, I'm lucky I got any non-spring training ballpark food! :)

Buddy's pizza in detroit is a classic and still great
There used to be a place in Burr Ridge, IL (Chicago Suburbs) had great pizza, now its called Capri Express and not as good. For thin crust, I do love Jet's I am a sucker for Costco's cafe pizza generally..... |
Best Pizza Places in the USA [merged threads]
I haven't tried Costco pizza lately. The last time I had it (perhaps the only time), I thought the crust was reminiscent of Wonder bread wadded up and baked.

I like Costco pizza. It's not gourmet, but I find it far FAR superior to Pizza Hut, Domino's, or any other large chain except Round Table.
I don't recall ever buying a slice though. We always get the take & bake. |
