Not a cheese maniac but I can't believe this has not been mentioned.

I love cheese, what are your thoughts on a nice fresh goat cheese and olives...with a dry martini and bread?

Or a fresh goat cheese, dry martini, farmer's bread and [/BOLD]roasted[/BOLD] olives? Never would have thought it myself, but I was at little Italian pizza kitchen in DC years ago, and one of the appetizers was olives roasted in the brick oven with a bit of garlic, olive oil, sea salt, white pepper and I'm pretty sure some fresh oregano. Heavenly ...

Gotta second this one too. I've heard rumors of fresh stateside mozzarella di bufala from family farms in upper New York state and somewhere in CA ...

In Japan cheese is a fairly popular snack with Scotch and other whisky. But have to try your combo. ^

These folks from Vermont make it. In NYC, it's carried at Whole Foods (and there's a store locator link on that page if you'd like to find it near you).

Awesome, that sounds delicious. Even at breakfast time right now that sounds great.
I think I will have to drop by Whole Foods on the way home and pick up a few items.

You made my morning!

You can find the original stuff from Italy if you are willing to look and pay through the nose. Whole foods in Baltimore does not have it (last I checked), but Graul's does and I am sure other upmarket stores do too. I did have to shell out 10 USD for it though, but it was worth it! It's why I'll keep it to a rare purchase. The "Fresh Mozzarella" that comes packaged in most grocery stores (mostly made in Wisconsin) is pretty decent, though. It's really taken a bite out of sales of the dry shredded stuff kraft and others provide in dairy sections nationwide, at least in MD.

If someone tries the VT buffalo mozzarella or anything else like it domestically made, let me know how it is...

I like most of them but the one most memeorable piece of cheese that I have ever tasted was a chunk of Roquefort that we picked up in a market in Languedoc. Roquefort has always been one of my most favorites and I would say that it still stands at the top of my list.

I too love smelly cheese and was in heaven in France. Oddly, as a child i absolutely detested blue cheese and goat's milk cheeses. Now, I adore them.

My favourite is Epoisses -- I think my Mom puked the first time I bought some and opened the package!!

Roquefort is great, as is Reblochon, Fourme D'Ambert, Vacherin Mont D'Or, Pont l'Eveque, and
Tomme de Savoie......

Brie de Meaux and a good camembert are always nice as well.

Yum!!! Reading this thread makes me want to go to my local cheese shop. If anyone when in Vancouver is looking for a great cheese shop, then go to

I don't know my cheeses, but I do like the stuff. I have ordered cheese plates for dessert in Europe and on cruise ships and haven't tasted one yet that I didn't love. My favorite is French. I don't know the name, but it's bright orange inside and brown on the outside, semi-hard and salty. Goes great with beer!

Man, what a diet-buster, though.

Mimolette is my favorite cheese. Makes a wonderful mac & cheese casserole, too.
