Here's my Paris hot dog story:

June 1985. My brother and I were in Paris for the first time in our lives, having met my parents there after spending time in London, Amsterdam, Brussels and Brugge. On our first evening we just walked around to get ourselves oriented. We found ourselves in the Tuilleries and, just before heading back to the hotel to get ready for dinner, my brother spots a hot dog vendor and orders one. My parents and I respond incredulously: not only are we about to go to dinner, but we're in Paris, where we expect to have the best food of our lives, and Paul is ordering a f***ing hot dog. Well my brother persists, and we watch as the hot dog vendor takes out a small baguette and hollows it out slightly. He then pulls a hot dog from his cart, dips it directly into a vat of dijon mustard, and then shoves it into the baguette. This looked great to all of us, so of course we all to sample this hot dog. This absolutely was one of the best -- if not the best -- hot dogs I've ever eaten. And fortunately there was no cheese or ketchup involved.

That DOES sound good! Almost makes me want to jump a plane to CDG to snarf one of those puppies.

It's been a while since I was last there,but at the time it was run by a "Soup-Nazi" style operator (ref. Seinfeld), which added to the great experience ^

There are 6 of them around town. I have to limit myself to just once a week. Their secret chili sauce is addictive.

2 cheese dogs (everything), 1 cheese steak (no hot peppers), and a diet Coke is my typical order.

I met a FT'er there once: he noticed I was reading ExpertFlyer.

Way to cut back on the fat and calories with that Diet Coke !

For store brands, supposedly its Boars Head. But we usually eat Hebrew National.

Yeah, I deserve that. I switched from regular when I went low-carb. That lasted a year. Still drinking Diet though.

Speaking of fat and calories, I had "poutine" for lunch for 2 years straight back when I was in high school. It's french fries (the greasiest the better) and cheese curds (really fresh ones so they squeak when chewing) smothered in gravy.

Drive over to the Newmarket Square meat market in Roxbury around noon, and you'll see a swarm of big guys in '80s Lincolns pulling in and out from Mass Ave and the Expressway. The reason for all the excitement? Boston Speed's Famous Hot Dog Wagon. The stand's proprietor, Ezra "Speed" Anderson, grills some of the largest and tastiest hot dogs we've ever seen. The kosher franks are eight inches long and almost a fist thick.

I used to sell a hot dog that big, a 2:1, most reps called it the "homewrecker"
