If anyone wants to buy an oyster farm, here's one for sale: http://www.silverpointoysters.com/oy...ssforsale.html

Really nice family, looks like they are retiring.

Precicely! Was there if or a conference and had some at the Dragos in the Hilton. Best cooked oysters I have ever had, and immediately had to come home and recreate them.

If you thought they were good at the Hilton, head for the original in Metairie for even better ones. Puts the Hilton location to shame

Selfridges department store in London has a wonderful oyster and champagne bar. They usually have oysters from several places, French, Irish and others. Always super fresh and very friendly service. Other places that are favorites of mine are Zuni Cafe and Swans in San Francisco, and the Oyster Bar at Grand Central in New York.

Had some great oysters recently at Neptune Oyster in Boston's North End. The lobster roll was also probably the best I've ever had, and I tend to be picky about my lobster rolls.

Is Italy, Rome specifically known for having good oysters? If so where should I go?

Try this page, http://www.cibando.com/blog/2013/01/...he-a-roma.html
it is in Italian but you can pick out the restaurant names & search in English.

Supposedly Rosetta Ostriche (oyster) Bar is near center of Rome

I don't believe Italy is known for oysters but if you have a hankering for them.^

Had a dozen raw at Eataly tonight here in Rome, they weren't bad, but a little salty for my taste compared to gulf or drake's bay ones.

B&G in Boston. had some great stuff there a few weeks ago. Much better than the ones I had at Union Oyster House.

I'll keep these in mind. Somehow, the Caviar House counters at LHR or HKG do not really tempt to indulge in oysters. Seems too artificial.

I'm about 20 min north of where Kusshis are cultivated and raised (at least by the person who invented the technique) in a body of water named Deep Bay. They're your basic Japanese oyster, just tumbled regularly (they are cage-grown so not free range ) so they don't develop ridges like the regular Japanese oyster (e.g., Fanny Bay which is ~5-10 minutes north). The shells are deeper too as a result though they are a lot smaller. I really can't tell the difference other than for the size (the Fanny Bay oysters in the photos below are bigger but taste the same pretty much as the two bodies of water and just a few Km apart).
