Tonight will be burger night. Stopped off at my butcher. Picked up some of his chuck/sirloin blend patties. I will sauté some onion, garlic and mushrooms. Add some Sweet Baby Rays secret sauce, which I kick up with some Franks extra hot sauce. Add some slices of slab bacon, purchased at the butcher as well. Cook the burgers in bacon grease (it adds a great taste to the meat). Toast some brioche buns….and there you have it! Some fries on the side…washed down with a Red Stripe. I will be sleeping right after loading the dishwasher!

I'll be over for dinner, and I'll even bring the beer!

I actually decided to skip the fries. With 2 burgers set for consumption, I’m happy with my decision.
Had I cooked them, it would have been a simple half hour in the oven. (Ore-Ida brand, not homemade).

Last night was a 'not so hungry' simple quasi-Caprese sandwich (heirloom tomatoes, fresh mozz, cilantro and some mustard aioli) along with a Sauvignon Blanc from Lake County - refreshing on a scorching 60-some degree Berkeley summer evening.

Pepperoni and green chili pizza to try out the new gas burner for the Ooni pizza oven (which we formerly ran with wood fuel). Verdict: running on gas is a lot easier and cleaner, but the gas-fired pizza is missing the subtle wood smoke flavor. Heat management is a lot easier on gas though.

Mixed big salad with BEC croutons

leftover Susiecakes - celebration and carrot. I ate all of the celebration and some of the carrot. I’ll have to finish the carrot one on Monday.

Similarly we have cooks here who add belacan (a type of shrinp paste) or curry to flat rice noodles (and pork and shrimp) and call it "char kway teow" (it isn't)... or mixes belacan with rice, ground pork and a few other veg and calls it malaysian fried rice (which I have never seen in Malaysia).... it's HK cooks getting creative.... unfortunately for those of us who know, it's just bad marketing... don't get me wrong, a lot of it is still tasty, but don't try to pass it off as another national dish.

"King of Pao Fan" is supposed to be good (mixed reviews)... but there was also supposed to be one somewhere in the north... but I can't remember what it was called (pao fan was only a side gig for them)... but yeah. It was very rare before, but now becoming more common from what I have heard.

👆🏻 Some dish not found in Singapore

As mentioned in earlier post , just not found in Singapore !
We have not seen it on menus anyway where we go .
Perhaps at some backpackers / touristy joint ? if at all ..

What we had last night , first time for me , was lobster “ pao fun “ ( crispy rice in broth ) . Pao fun is somewhat common here these days after only being round in fancy Chinese restaurants in hotels like Hua Ting ( Orchard Hotel ) and Summer Pavilion ( Ritz Carlton ) .
Also fish head curry - Chinese version - with beancurd ( pok ) and beanskin .[/QUOTE]

Now that you mention it , StuckInYYZ , recall seeing it on menus in HK in my teens and wondered what on earth it was & the governess describing it .

Here are 2 photos I forgot to post with the pao fun dinner .

Guess I should post my dinner for once...

Rice w/3 veg curries from a local indian place... some vadai and some leftover homemade soy sauce wingettes from last night (which I accidentally left marinading in it's sauce for two days).

Tonight, day 3 (not in a row) of lasagna. Hopefully nearing the end, maybe I'll eat double :).
Tomorrow night Garlic Fest in Highwood! It's the closest I'm going to get to Gilroy in the near future. My wife has pledged to try garlic ice cream.
