That Detroit style pan pizza (King Arthur/NYT recipe) is so good with pepperoni. For a while, I was making it about once a week on the grill.

I love the Detroit pizza and get jealous seeing the recipe with the pepperoni. My family prefers the regular style of pizza so next time I might do Detroit for myself and regular for the family.

Do you have the special pan?
When in Detroit at Buddy's we always order pepperoni with those nice crispy edges and pools of oil! yummy!

I use the 8” or 9” square baking pan - it’s not only for pizza.

I didn't know you differentiated between raw and cooked . Prosciutto is cured pork. And pepperoni is almost never sold raw so why would you have to eat that outside ?
if you already make pizza at home why not just put on the topping you want...it is no different than whatever you put on now....throw pepperoni slices on it.

maybe if I buy salami again, I’ll make a salami pizza for myself. I just try to avoid pork products in the house as much as possible. My spouse loves prosciutto so I get the San Daniele one from Costco. Plus I have some pork dim sum.

Ok, I’ll bite. Why? Especially if you love it so much?

Will you take your salami pizza and eat outside like you did with the pepperoni one? And everyone else eats in the house? It is a bit cold to eat outside at night here.
It doesn't sound like your wife is avoiding pork products if she is eating prosciutto which by the way is also really good on pizza.

We're housesitting for my dad and we're going to experiment with his InstaPot tonight to decide if we want to buy one of our own. We're going to do a spaghetti and meatballs meal in it and see how it turns out.

I love my Instant Pot. I've never cooked pasta in it, but I've made pulled pork, crack chicken, kielbasa and sauerkraut, and have been using it almost daily lately to cook plain chicken for Geno.

I'm curious too. I thought it was a religious observance, but now I'm confused about cooked and uncooked and everyone seems to just eat pork just not in the house.

our child requested no pork in our house so we try to honor this request. Children have practically zero control or influence in their home, so it’s an easy request to try and honor.

I don’t like prosciutto on pizza but have reluctantly had it back when my spouse wanted it as a topping (white pizza with prosciutto and arugula). I don’t know when I’ll have salami again in the house as it is great for sandwiches.

it’s a combo of our child’s preference plus religion, although pork is also very unhealthy; I think it’s worse than cow. I try to have under 8-Oz of red meat a week if possible!

Why would a kid request no pork? And what difference does it make if it is cooked or not or in the house or out? Seems a bit over the top that you have to go outside your own house to eat pepperoni pizza. I am quite sure I didn't know what products were made from pork or beef when I was a kid (not that my parents would ever allow a kid to dictate what the parents were allowed to eat).
And as far as being unhealthy, I am not sure I would count cheeseburgers, fries, grilled cheese as health food. I don't think in moderation pork is unhealthy at all---it is the other white meat.

fish taco supper (Costco fish - forgot details already!)
Including homemade avocado (I’m just still so happy to make guacamole at home!)
mexican rice made with my homemade turkey stock, instead of chicken broth... I might be onto something!

I’ve heard from kaiser nutritionist that pork is unhealthier than cow.
I didn’t have pepperoni pizza outside my house. I had it at a pool.

You were at someone's pool on New Year's eve?
I don't know when that nutritionist told you that but lots of pork is bred to be very lean (such as tenderloin and some chops) and is far less unhealthy than a cheeseburger. Of course things like pork belly are going to be higher in fat but you eat sausages and ice cream and fries and pizza and white bread and processed food ---lean pork is much healthier than any of those things. If you avoid bacon and other fatty cuts having pork several times a month it is not unhealthy at all.

Fun 2001 nyt article about red king crabs - the body meat was / is used for canning.

This. My parents would never have allowed me to dictate what they were allowed to eat. I agree about lean pork being better than cheeseburgers, fries, etc.

We had shrimp cocktail and egg roll in a bowl (made with ground pork) for dinner last night and will have leftovers tonight. The ground pork was so lean there was no fat to drain after I browned it.

The only way my parents would allow us to dictate the meal is if we were the ones cooking, which we did at least one night a week starting about age 9.
