I did buy it for that promo sale. Expired 5/9. My child had one last night for supper with a raw veggie tray.
in fact these sausage sales are now officially blocking me from buying Evergood until it’s on Costco sale. I will just wait. I’m in zero hurry and I’ve nowhere to go. Current sale is over aidell spicy mango chicken which I refuse to buy. Zero chicken sausage for me - I’ll just cook my own Costco chicken thighs! I love chicken sausage...especially chicken and apple but that mango sounds good too. |

I have my degen poker play date tonight so will make the Nyt Southern Macaroni & Cheese (that I made in April) for my family before I exit. There’ll be enough for leftovers for a few days - it’s 1 pound of cheddar and 1/2-lb of Colby Jack. Plus 2 cups milk and 2 eggs.
My poker play date host will have pizza or indian. If the host doesn’t have food then I’ll order pizza with a lot of pepperoni. I’m bringing edible candies - $24.80 for a canister with 20 PCs, each with 5mg. |
Mr. CE has his golf league this evening and I have been craving sushi, so it is delivery for me!

I grew up on souffle style and that NY Times recipe sounds too bland with both Cheddar and a Colby Jack. To me, substituting part Fontina, Havarti, and/or even Velveeta would make it more appealing in a souffle style Mac and Cheese for texture, but I'd likely use three eggs too.

Gruyere for the win. The Martha Stewart version is my all-time favorite and the only one I make now. I tried the NYT and you are correct; far too bland.

I thought that too...both of those cheeses are the same taste to me. I love gruyere in M&C but also with you on the Havarti ...maybe gouda.

baking the Mac & cheese now before I broil the remaining cheese on top. I’m excited for my poker degen play date. I’m really hungry - I’ve eaten 1-2 carrots and I can really feel the hunger. I’ll have some of this before I exit.

I’m using tillamook medium cheddar. I had a piece on Friday during my parent chaperone day and I really liked it! I’m tempted to have some now.

Tonight, we returned to one of our favorite buffets, Ginza, where we haven't been since February 2020. Although they have signs, "requiring" face masks and plastic gloves. they can no longer enforce it due to DeSantis' ruling. I would say 90% were masked walking around, but only around 50% used the provided food service gloves. My wife and I used a pair of gloves to serve ourselves, and changed them when back at the table as the food could be a little messy. I had only a few items, snow crab, raw oysters (huge) about 3 dozen, ginger scallion lobster in shell, cut up into small pieces, and some pan fried gyoza. We tried to put Diwata into her crate before leaving, but she knocked over her water onto the mat and soaked it. We tempted fate, and left her outside the crate, but confined to the family room only. She was very well behaved, not doing anything besides eating her food and playing with her toys. We rewarded her good behavior with a treat when we got home.

Thanks again - Trader Joe’s has the slot & sign for it and lacked it when I was last there. I know what to get :-) And Volpi is carried many places. |
I plotted fish tacos for supper tonight although I need bell pepper - Costco this morning lacked peppers. Grrrrrrrr - i went to a different location than my “usual” Costco.
i might settle for pickled peppers as I have them in a jar and can just rinse & use them for cooking. It’ll cost me more but… my spouse heard about lobster tail idea yesterday and seems to prefer it, yet Costco had zero lobster and zero lobster SKU. I really don’t care if I have lobster or fish tacos or shrimp tacos because it’s all yum.

I don't necessarily have to buy my pepperoni at a certain store and I think there are lots of good pepperonis out there. I like Hormel or Boars Head off the top of my head. It is not something that I am overly brand loyal about. Because of Trader Joe's business model, in most cases they will only carry 1 or 2 brands of a product or only their private label. Most groceries or deli markets will have a much bigger selection.
And Volpi is carried many places. granted I did have pepperoni on pizza last night and it’ll probably realistically push back pepperoni pizza desire for several months. Oops. I can have salami on pizza and I can’t imagine pepperoni on a sandwich. It’s a mental block. |
Had a mix of home cooked & take out

Cheeseburgers and oven fries
I made the mistake of putting an egg into the burgers, as my dad was saying you need it to hold the burgers together, and perversely it actually made the burgers fall apart. also two cocktails: a gin and club soda into which I juiced a lime (refreshing!) and a Negroni with Lillet instead of sweet vermouth. All in all, a nice Sunday dinner with not too much effort. |
A retro meal right out of my mom's old recipe box!
Sweet and Sour Meatballs I used ground chicken instead of beef. Serve them over mashed potatoes with green beans. We still have cool weather so it sound about right. :) |
Went to a great new French-Mexican restaurant --Tzuco. Would definitely recommend it to Chicagoans and visitors. Steak tartare, mussels and grilled red snapper.
