Got some at Costco last week that were quite good. Supposed to be $5.99 for 2 pounds. Of course the best looking container was an organic one that I didnt even see a tag for. Charged $9.99.

Most likely, haven't had enough time to properly ripen. The sugars haven't had a chance to develop.

Yup, not a great cherry season. I expect lots of storm damage occurred in Northern CA (at a time when the nearly-ripe fruit would split), and our short local season is long done.

On the $4.99 batch, I found one cherry with a slight amount of mold. Packed in WA, on June 25th, so about a week before we bought it. I try to look at the bottom of the container, to look for such things. My daughter picked it out, but I doubt Id have spotted it, either.
